All right I know this going to result in arguments but I'm curious. I was reading on another thread that there is nothing illegal about putting 13 or 14 rounds of 9mm into a 40cal mag. This has gotten my attention and sparked my curiosity. I'm looking for educated answers and not some e-thug talking $@&! . Thank you all

Hello Expendable Nate.

The RCMP has issued a bulletin about this specific question, stating that it is, in fact, legal :

5. Magazines for semiautomatic handguns which contain more than ten (10) rounds of a different calibre

Magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic handgun, are limited to 10 cartridges. The capacity is measured by the kind of cartridge the magazine was designed to contain. In some cases the magazine will be capable of containing more than 10 rounds of a different caliber; however that is not relevant in the determination of the maximum permitted capacity.

Example:
Heckler and Koch P7 pistol chambered for 9mm Luger caliber:
The magazine designed for the 40 S&W calibre variant of the pistol will hold 13 cartridges of 9mm Luger calibre and function in the 9mm Luger calibre P7 pistol. This is permissible as the maximum permitted capacity of the 40 S&W calibre magazine must be measured by the number of 40 S&W calibre cartridges it is capable of holding, which is 10 such cartridges in the case of the HK P7 pistol magazine.

For more information, please contact the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program by one of the following methods:

At this point, I doubt there is any argument to be had ;)

On a related note, is there any confirmation that this will work for c z pistols? I have found references that it may work for the cz75, but I would like some confirmation for that gun, and for the p07 as well. Thanks.

Re the 9mm in the G22 mag, there are mixed reviews. Personally I found it to be highly unreliable and only to get about 7 or 8 rounds in before the spring tension caused the rounds to puke out the top. Sure it will hold 13 9mm rounds, but not for long as the feed lips are just a tad too far apart to withold the 9mms under pressure. If you are thinking that bending the lips slightly would solve the problem, it definately would, however you have just made an alteration to a magazine from its original form and created a prohibited device. Others have had success in other makes of guns but my Glocks did not like it at all. Good luck

You have brought up a good point here. Maybe the factory g17 mags would be a better choice... I saw somewhere on here that had a great deal on them but can't remember where...

I own the 9mm and 40 S&W version of several different pistols. By accident I have loaded 9mms in 40 cal mags. Did this in the middle of a IDPA match. Mag held the ammo ok but would not feed or function. I think it was a CZ, but can't be sure.

Checked it out today. Cz 75/85 40 cal mags WILL NOT hold 9mm. At least the 40c mags they had in stock.
