well it looks like we may have a conservative minority or maybe even a majority? What do you think the odds are that we may once again be able to legally have large capacity magazines?

How many of these threads are we going to have? Enough with the de-restrict the AR15, unprohib the AK47, legalize full cap mags, and so on. We haven't won the election yet! How about we concentrate on keeping the guns we have.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I would go one step further...

Even if the Conservatives win the election it doesn't mean we've "won" anything more than a temporary reprieve. This "battle" must be long term. The Liberals and the anti-gun lobby have made their agenda very clear. If they don't win next Monday they will simply try again come next election and again after that, until eventually they do win at which point all of their threats will return to haunt us.

We will never change the opinion of the anti-gun lobby... but we might be able to educate and modify the opinions and policies of the Liberal party... if we don't we're doomed. Eventually they will win an election.

If we are to save what we have then we need to fight a long term battle to change the opinions of the general public... those people who don't know anything about the shooting sports and who have no interest in firearms or private firearm ownership. Only if you change their opinions will you and I have any hope to keep our guns in the future.

As for repealing existing laws... well under a minority government there won't be much of anything happening... but under a majority anything is possible. What difference will it make if a year later the government changes and the new government bans handguns... or all private ownership of firearms? Again, we as a group must make the public understand that laws that are passed to control law abiding citizens don't control criminals and more important, laws that are passed against law abiding citizens only serve to use up money and manpower that would otherwise be spent catching and prosecuting the very criminals that the public thinks these laws are going to control... in fact they make the situation worse not better.

That's what you need to explain to the general public... if they understand this basic reality they won't be so quick to support gun bans and will instead demand their politicians put their efforts where they are needed and where they will have the proper effect. Politicians do what they think will get them elected... make them believe that gun bans aren't the way to do that.

Just my opinion :)

Mark's on the money.

The first step in any changes to the firearms act has to be to inject common sense. Bring about the changes that are so fundamentally needed that Wendy herself would be hard pressed to argue against them.

From there it's a matter of education, investigation, and revision. We've got enough data and real world expertise to work with. We need to make this a perpetual project.

In time, I beieve we can peel back the layers of ridiculous and unsupportable gun prohibitions. However, it's going to take a whole lot of effort and time to make the average Joe understand that it's the right thing to do. Jumping the gun or pushing too aggressive an agenda early will cost us.

I totally agree with informing the general public, but i think we would have better luck teaching a bag of hammers. The commie liberals and the media have them so brainwashed i dont know if its possible, but we have to try

How about enough law abiding gun owners joining the Liberal party & changing policies from within? -------------------- That is if one could stand the stench of patronage & coruption !

Only problem is we'd need to have a dozen people in every riding join up, join the riding association, and work like mad for the next dozen years.

Anything less and you are simply pissing in the wind, and funding the party.

Hey

Christ, this idea was passed around when Kim was PM. It was tried in one riding, and they succeeded in getting their person nominated, but the leader of the Lieberal party can refuse to sign your nomination papers, and parachute his own candidate into your riding. And as mentioned above, it fill their coffers with $$$$$$$

Frankly, we're alot more likely to see some evil nasty guns become de-prohibbed or de-restricted before we see mag restrictions lifted. I'd say average canadians would be more willing to listen and be convinced by the unreasonableness of our silly laws based on looks, because its practical and fairly logical to argue against those silly laws. But de-restricting normal capacity mags? What is the benefit? Most people dont see a 30 rounder in an AR15 as a necessary or reasonable tool(however much fun it might be:D)...

Not to be a wet rag, but it will be hard to convince people of the need...That said, you can coount on my support! I hope to be king of canada by then and banned stupid politicians(forget banning-Extinct the Liberals!)

the best way to fight ANY ban is to get as many people as you know the get a license and buy guns. if everybody here got two or three people licensed then here alone we would get to 20 000 people on here alone.
if enough people have guns it would be like trying to confiscate all V8 powered cars and truck cause the polute too much. due to the number of V8 owners that could never happen

You mean "regular" capacity mags right??? Not the LIEberal neutered ones all LAW ABIDING Canadians must endure... CRIMINALS don't pin their mags... so this law makes NO SENSE!!!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Word is that many western Conservative candidates are discussing the possible total re-writing of canadian gun law! Maybe a NFA suggested graduated system could become a reality!

I believe property rights may be of benefit to firearms owners. There is a reason Paul Martin mentioned property rights and it making a handgun ban difficult to enforce.....!

Id love to see it but dont think it will happen, hard to get back anything the gov, has banned, prohibited, what ever word you want to employ.
