Mag Carry

Ranger scout, you got it from the horses mouth right there. Farmboy is the guy to deal with for this kind of stuff. He hooked me up large!! Great gear and a great guy to deal with!! He and his staff are top notch folks and if he doesn't have it you don't need it!!

This may sound dumb but you should consider buying some 5/20 rounders for your M305. The shorties are a bit of a pain in the hind end to load and unload I have found. Also the 5/20's will give you a mono-pod to rest on the ground when you shoot. Another option if you only have shorties, is 40mm grenade pouches and turn your mags sideways. Farmboy would be able to help you out with these aswell.

Jay T that sounds very practical not dumb at all. I wanted 5 rnd shorts to save money and weight. They are not too heavy but space ect. I will sport them if their is a a 5/20 rnd carry vest. Also i have not done civi a service rifle yet so i am not sure how many mags are needed or suggested for the m305?

Oh and seems like you are EME type to Jay T (I am only reservist)

Arte et Marty!

It is going to depend on the string. PM Hungry and he will be able to give you a better load out for service rifle. Either him or Tim K. They are the guru's for ORA I see you are in Ont so get ahold of them and get out to a shoot with them. I think and don't quote me on this but I think 5 mags should cover you. 5/20's are the way to go. Farmboy would be able to hook you up with a chest rig that will hold the mags. Wait..... PM inbound. I have just what you need for 5/20's.

humm... never thought about surplus but I think a lighter more breathable vest is likely better. I shall contact farm boy and that should cover my vest issues. The mags and rifle i am buying off marstar in a few days. So i need to buy 4 more 5/20's and all ready with m305 B package get 1 5 rnd and 5/20. I will contact hungry when me and my mate have rifles set ups and attachments looked after. Also after zeroing in.

Thanks a ton!

You do not get lighter and more breatheable than old school webbing (eg 82 pattern). Vests suck for both those reasons. Do a search on CF Tac Vests and read about 2 million reasons why they suck more than webbing. If you look into something high speed from any distributor look I would check out a simple, stripped down, molle chest rig or belt rig not a vest.

But if you were looking at ORA service rifle as "practice" for CFSAC, shouldn't you be using what you would in competition? Is CF allowing non-issue kit at that comp?

Could be dreadfully wrong, but I don't think either of our units (reserves) regularly sends people to the CFSAC. If they do than neither of us are good enough shots to have ever been selected.

Also, not sure how the military would feel about us using our issued kit for civi side shooting.

ORA (and the units that show up) generally do not care if you wear your work rig. No one will say a word, especially if you come to shoot the SR match - because most of the SR matches in the year are actually CFSAC qualification matches for the LFCA team.
