Mag Carry

So you have two choices.

1, ask permission to train and become a better soldier
2, beg forgiveness for training to become a better soldier

Bingo.. :D

My personal preference is a simple MOLLE vest. Just arrange your mag pouches on it as you see fit depending on the game. I have that luxury being no longer in the Queens employ :D

I like a vest with drop leg subloads simply because of the weight distribution factor and versatility based on the game. Not everything is hanging around my waist.

If I'm doing shotgun and pistol, I pull off the 5.56 pouches and put on some universal type kit that will hold shot shells along with pistol mag pouches.

Switch it back when I'm back doing SR again. simple! :)

I will say a simple chest rig is the way to go.

Drop leg subloads are crappy - It is a solution that you have to use becasue there isn't a choice.

Not necessarily true.. I've had my pistol on my vest, on my belt and on my leg. So far, the leg is the best setup I've used for the CQB stuff. Vest was too high, belt, it got in the way, drop leg I find puts it right where my hand naturally falls too when I'm transitioning from the rifle.

But, I think it's a bit of a matter of what works best for the individual. There would be times where I would mount the holster back on my belt as well. Depends on the game. For CQB, I like it on my leg though.

well the webbing is breathable but if i find something lighter and better.(I would rather up high mags like chest over waist) I will se i am sure my local surplus store has many. I will look into it. I do not plan on getting restriced for a year so pistol and CQB are kinda ruled out... Unfortunatly

Thanks

Note: this is response before The forces vest was brought in thread. I cant do CF tac vest for same reason and 7.62 will not fit in 5.56 puches

Train as you fight. I hate the CF Issued Vest but I wear it because that is what is issued. Same reason I bought a 20" AR and Elcan to train with.

Gunnerlove: how often do you train on your own, then with your unit? I'm guessing you do BCRA SR matches to stay sharp as well..

I try to get out on my own 1 or twice a month. I seem to miss most of my units rifle shoots as I am away on taskings. Last time I shot with my unit was Sept 2009 .

I do use my 5 rounders in the Service Rifle especially with the new rules and CQB addition. Since you need to carry everything on you this time around every mag you have is useful. I found that a good drop pouch as the "solve it all" magazine pouch for any both 5 rounders and 5/20 round mags.

Hope this helps.
