Just sitting here at work (12hour shift) and contemplating if there would be a market for a dummy mag extension for the lar15 10round mag. I've molded a prototype out of resin that is screwed to the existing baseplate. When the base plate is installed it gives the appearance of a thirty round mag. This does not change the capacity of the mag just the apppearence. Would anyone be interested in these? Should I mass produce them? Is somone going to see this and steal my idea and mass produce them first? ( I hope not) Give me your thoughts gun nutz.

IPSC 3 gun shooters often use extended base plates so their mags are easier to fit in the pouches, etc. They are usually milled aluminum.
If you do a search you will find that others have made a few and planned to put them into production, yet never do. I think you might have a market there if you follow through with it. I for one would buy some if their not unpleasant to look at.

I made my mold form an gi 30 round mag. All the lines line up. Other then a seam in the middle and a difference in colour (prototype) it looks pretty good. I will start testing diferent materials for durability and shopping for a munfacture.

Note there are various versions of the LAR 15 mags. I believe they have different lines. There is a thread here somewhere that has photos of the different ones.
Sounds like a good idea. However many ppl like myself have already invested in Magpul or other baseplates. The ideal dummy mag extension would have the capability to attach a baseplate so we could continue to use our magpuls. And even more ideal would be a no tools no drilling connection to the LAR mag. If you're interested in something like this I recommend examining a Magpul USGI ranger plate, might give you some ideas.

I'd buy them and gladly use them to replace ranger plates on my LARs. I'd want them to be robust obviously. I think they would be pretty popular.

The ones I have found are good to go for this. I did wrap the joint in duct tape to make sure the plates did not slide out. Extra security and frankly I don't give a rats arse what my mags look like. My ARs are for shooting not for looking at.
Unfortunately, the guy who made them decided not to go ahead with production. Too bad, lots of guys I meet at SR events are interested in a product of this type.

They work great. Two wood screws through the baseplate. You have to massage the spring over them, but, rock solid. A couple coats of boiled linseed oil, and I don't even have to worry about moisture from the ground.
Cost me about $15 for the wood to do 4 magazines....
Next time I probably won't bother cutting/shaping them to match a Pmag, as, it really isn't functionally necessary.
Work fantastic for monopodding, as proven in 2 SR matches now.... I even did half decent in my last match.... 824/1050
The NEA15 held up well too. Shoots fantastic out to 500 yards with Hornady 75 grain handloads... My very first sighter at 500 was a 5 pointer (max possible)

Thanks for the input. As for the ranger plate? Well I may have started casting an gi mag with a ganger plate installed. Some mods will have to be made so as not to infringe on magpuls copyrights. I will post pictures of each as soon as I have one that's meets my standards( it has to look like a standard steel mag.)

What do you think price would be, ballpark?
Couldn't say on a price yet. I have to find a manufacturer. But I'd like to keep it under $20. $15 sounds good but we'll have to wait and see. The cheaper the better. If I could I'd package them with the mag for $35. But this is all speculation right now. Still need to make a few adjustments then recast a finished product. This one is made of urethane. A bit pricy for mass production. I'm also working on one for M&P mags as I can't seem to get any 10/17 to put base pads on. The finished product will be colour matched to the mag. Black was the only pigment I had on hand.
