Mag fed grizzlies

Sweet!

I am just waiting on the delivery of a Rossi Ranch Hand and I would like to be able to compare and contrast against the 8.5" Mag Fed so I can decide which gun will become my woods defense gun.

I can't wait for one of these!

I'm in for sure! Once I saw the mag fed 15" and a non-restrited beside it my jaw hit the floor. Sir, I will mail you a blank check an you can write whatever amount on it an I will pay it!

Just kidding of course! I'm good with the price as it is

are these things any good?

Most people have to fix the mags for the shotgun to cycle properly but besides that it's built well. I added a Mesa Tactical stock, 12.5" barrel and a railed forend on mine. Had to put a forend grip on because the railed forend was way too hard on the hands. I would bleed every time I used it. Never thought I would like a forend grip on a shotty but it works well....

It takes some love at first to get it to cycle properly, I would not expect to just take it out of the box and put 100 rounds through it.
But a bit of time and ingenuity she is great.

Bit of filing and some sanding on the front of the mag. Then put an outward bump on the top near the front of the follower(thanks to the CGN member who first tried this) to angle the front of the shells upward more.

Then i did a bit of sanding inside the receiver and the likes.

just a note, after about 350 rounds my rear sight(adjustable part) fell off, make sure you check every once in a while that the set screws are tight.

8.5 inch barrel?

What kind of velocity loss would we be looking at with say 3 inch slugs?

also could a 8.5 inch take screw in chokes like say a rifled choke?

What kinda work needs to be done to the mags?

When I got mine a couple years back, I certainly had some issues with it. The thing would tend to jam up quite a bit. 2.75 inch shells would often fail to strip from the magazine, and 3 inch shells would kinda get stuck sideways in the feeding path (to be fair, the gun is not advertised as being able to cycle the 3 inchers).

However, I was able to come up with a fix. I took a hacksaw and hacked off a section of the feed lips on the magazine, allowing the shells to pop up into the feeding path earlier. Now it cycles 2.75 and 3 inch shells with no real issues.

Maybe I should post some pics of how I did it... You don't want to hack away too much of the feed lips or the 2.75 inch shells might kinda get jammed in the ejection port on the way into the chamber.

So yeah, out of the box you'll probably have problems but with a little work you can fix it. I am totally happy with my gun now and I'm planning on spending some bucks pimping it out.

Where are we at with these?

Is there going to be such a thing as an 8.5" box magazine, pump action or semi auto shotgun????

Hopefully any semi would use a different magazine so we can still have these pumps with larger mags. I will be making extended mags for mine when the next batch comes in, maybe even try a snail.
