What type of competition is this for?
Generally for competition purposes you do not want to have any flaps or bungees in your way. You want to be able to just grab the mag and go.
Unless the type of competition you are participating in specifically requires some type of flap or external retention device, internal tension inside the mag holder is the way to go.

Exactly.. The only discipline for which I got a soft pouch is mini-rifle and that's because there isn't anything else on the market. Buy good quality or you'll just waste your money on junk pouches and buy good ones anyway. Guess how I found out

Unless you're going to war... open top with tension screw is plenty enough.
