CGN'rs, love ya work,
just scratchin my head again with this Kimber, say to rechamber into a 284 based round, ala 30-284......... my current 7mm-08 rounds are loaded to approx. 69mm OAL tip to base, with Woodleigh, how will this work with a Case that is a few MM longer to begin with.................
it seems I wouldn't have much more room to play with in that magazine..
Thanks????

FWIW. I tried a 180gr Speer grand slam in 284 necked up to 308. The brass got shorter by .5 mm and the OAL when seated to the top of the cannelure was 71.5mm or 2.816". I used the grand slam cuz it's similar profile to the woodleigh PP's

If you're inclined towards the 30-284, why not consider 7.5X55 Swiss and use standard dies and brass?

If it was me, I would re-chamber to 284 win, if it could be done with that action. I have been told there isn't enough meat on a 84m reciever for the fat 284 case. I'm not sure if thats true though.

Definitely not enough meat for a 300wsm in the 84 action, which is why kimber uses the 8400. The 284 win case, is up for debate though. I've heard both yes and no!

284 Winchester's should be based on a longer action so you can seat the bullets out of the case to use that space for powder. I would never consider building on a short action.

He's looking to rechamber/rebarrel his short action Kimber 7-08

30-284 and the 7.5x55 are very similar... I use to use 284 brass for my 7.5 when 7.5 stuff was scarce. Just a run though the FL sizer and that's it.
Dies etc would be easier to source for the 7.5, and there is factory ammo available as well. More practical to go with 7.5x55 then a 30-284, but both would be a little impractical in a short action.
