I have seen so many Magna-Ported barrels that were not kept clean and damaged from shooting that I do not recommend it.
They are harder to clean as the gunk seeps back into the rifling... and dust and debris also enter the ports... when the rifle is fired in this condition, slight damage results.
If you have one ported, maintain it well.
I much prefer a removable muzzle brake. They reduce recoil more and are easy to clean.
The Magna-Porting, the Muzzle Brake, and a bare rifle all damage your hearing when fired. Use protection with all of them or suffer the consequences.

I don't know if it is the "proper" way but after scrubbing, etc. and patching I run a tight patch from the chamber just short of the porting and then use my air hose from the muzzle to blow the ports clean... then I will dry patch full length and then plug and use the air hose again... until everything is dry and clean...
Magna Port in Selkirk Manitoba doesn't exist anymore. That was Joe Undiks and he died a year ago, but the business had been all but closed for several years prior to that.
As far as I know, nobody has taken over the work. In fact gunsmiths in Winnipeg area are getting scarce. Seems we have more in Thunder Bay than Manitoba.

I talked to Joe a year ago or so and he said to send him the barrel that he still did it but not under the name of magna port. To bad to hear he has passed. I had a Weatherby Mark V Lazermark in 300 wby that was ported by him. I would just go with a muzzle break.
