I am putting together my belt, found a belt I like, but wanted to know what mag pouches I should look at.

This is a low profile set up, so it will be 2x double pistol mag pouches and I guess 2x AR mag pouches.

And holster obviously.

For now this will be on a 2.25" nylon duty belt with pad.

For AR mags I was thinking of Bladetech or the ITW Fastmags. I use both Pmags and metal mags if there is a difference in fit.

For my pistol mags, I was thinking of Bladetech or Blackhawk double mag pouches.

This is for lightweight shooting and training, not a 1st line belt or anything like that. I guess I will evolve into that later on.

Thanks, C.

I ordered a couple of mag holsters from Brian at Kytex Gear - pretty nice pieces of kit.

The belt clip is made to fit a 1 3/4'' belt - but works perfectly well on my 1 1/2'' "Better BDU" belt. The fit is pretty tight with LAR 15 mags - and works perfectly with a half inserted mag, making for a quick changes with even those short magazines - they won't ever shake loose accidentally, no matter how many times you dive for prone.

I haven't tried them with USGI or PMAGS - but I have no doubt they would work perfectly, as thats what they are designed for.

They make for a quicker draw than pouches - and being designed to be worn on the hip - won't get in the way of slings, butt stocks, or "going prone" like a chest rig will.

Edited to add: Just saw you wanted to mount onto a 2.25'' belt - so these aren't going to work for you. Reading comprehension - not always my strong point!

I use this setup for training and drills

Nothing too crazy... Just a simple rig, a Blackhawk belt reversible MOLLE belt pad, HSGI Taco pouches, a a CTOMS Dumper pouch. I found, originally, it works ok with a chest rig too running through a carbine course. However, being a small person, the rifle Taco pouches made the PMags sit a little high and was a little awkward under stress. I just added a CTOMS MOLLE drop panel and it allowed the Tacos to sit a little lower, I haven't had a chance to run with it at the range yet, just a dry run in the basement.

Holster is a simple Bladetech holster, but you can swap that out as required, since its just a simple belt loop.

It's pretty light weight and simple...

Oneshot...... Bfg helium whispers , pretty freakin low profile, pretty cheap, fits either pmags or aluminum, and they make them for pistol mags as well. Assuming the belt is molle anyways.

I have used an ITW Nexus Fastmag on my duty belt to carry an extra rifle mag for the past year and a half. For normal carry it's a 20 rounder because I found carrying a 30 rounder for 11-12 hours was a bit of a pain. It holds the mag very secure yet is very easy to draw a mag from and return the mag. I find kydex is great for being able to return mags easily without the pouch collapsing (like nylon). If you do get nylon make sure the opening is rigid and will not collapse.

I just use the generic issued nylon pouch but have been thinking about picking up a couple ITW Nexus Pistol Pouches. Even though you can double stack them (pistol pouches or rifle pouch) I won't be doing that because it will stick out too much and be awkward and uncomfortable.

This photo was taken almost a year ago. Since then I've added a Tactical Design Labs Professional Comfort Pad to my duty belt.

Raven makes a Kydex frame set up that will let you run 2 rifle Tacos or 3 pistol Tacos either on the belt, or just below the belt (if you go to a vest the drop load would be handy) - a pretty cheap and unobtrusive way of carrying extra mags.

Never used the tacos myself, but I will throw my vote in for the fastmags. Used them overseas, and have done some low profile stuff with them (or as low pro as you can get with an AR)

Safari land makes a great fast mag system, they also can be fixed together to take less space on the belt, give me a PM if your interested

Thanks all.

I intend to do a 1st Line style belt in the future once my Brokos arrives.

For now I am leaning towards the Bladetech models, injection molded with Tekloks, to keep this as close to my duty rig as possible.

Just waiting to here from vendors who have ALL in stock instead of pieces.

If you haven't bought yet the double stacked pistol and rifle mag combo of the taco is nice and you can't go wrong with the fast mags. The nice thing about the taco is the space savings on the belt and the relatively low profile they have.

I would go with tacos or fastmags.

i was planing to get the tacos. they seem to be good. and correct me if im wrong but they are designed so it van fit a pmag or a rifle mag?
i like to get multi purpose gear, but i guess sometimes that means its good at 2 functions but not great at either... sometimes.

has anyone run the tacos before.?

they fit almost any mag or thing there awesome youtube them

Set up is based on a duty belt, so the options like Tacos that do not have a proper belt attachment are a no go, but are a go for the Brokos set up.

what about the fast mag?
