mag pouches for IPSC or IPDA

I have desided to buy a Blade Tech holder for shooting sports, can I get some advice on the mag pouches, for IDPA I would need a double pouch & single pouches for IPSC will be running single stack 1911 mags.

would like something adjustable for tilt on a single pouchs, I know there is alot of Brands out there so a few ideas would help.

For IDPA you can run two single mag pouches if you want. There are some advantages to do so as singles can be separated so you don't inadvertently pull two mags out when you only want one.

Whatever you pick, be aware that the IDPA equipment rules are more specific than for IPSC. The Blade-Tech singles look fine but some of the adjustable pouches (CR Speed etc) may not comply or need modification.

Go check out a match if you want to see a few different types & the pros/cons of each. As far as tilt, you'll probably find that most people just leave them 100% vertical unless shooting in open division.
 
Get the Safariland Model 771 pouches.

Bob, can you clarify; which mag pouches are not legal for IDPA?

Would the single adjustable pouches from CR Speed, Ghost or Safariland be legal?
 
I bought some Ghost 360 mag pouches from DoubleTap Sports a couple of weeks ago. They adjust to any size magazine. Good choice for IPSC but not sure if they are legal for IDPA.
 
As long as the pouches meet IDPA rules they are good to go:

Magazine carrier must:
A. Be designed for concealed carry and suitable for all day
continuous wear.
B. Be worn on a standard belt of no more than 1 ¾” width that
must pass through the belt loops on the shooter’s pants.
C. Hold the magazine with enough tension to allow it to be
turned upside down and retain a fully loaded magazine.
D. Cover 2” of the magazine as measured from the top of the
cartridge rim down the back flat of the magazine tube.
E. Cover the entire front face of the portion of the magazine
inside the carrier. The front face is defined as the side of the
tube away from the shooter’s body.
F. Hold the magazine within 10 degrees of vertical (80-100° to
the ground) position on the belt, no substantial forward or rear
cant.
G. Be worn in a belt location that will position the front edge of
the carrier behind the centerline of the body.

No for the CR Speed and Safariland Model 771 due to 5 & 6 of the addendum see post below. From the pictures on their website the Ghost G103 and G103-MGD models would appear to be legal. The G103MGR would not appear to be suitable for designed for concealed carry and may not be legal. From the pictures on their website it is difficult to tell.

Why would an indexing cut make a mag illegal?

The rules only refer to the side of the pouch away from the body.

John it is difficult to make a firm decision just from pictures. To add to your list of criteria:

From the Addendum:

5. Can have no offset back pieces and/or belt slots. The carrier may not offset away from the belt and/or body.

6. Must hold the ammunition carrier positioned on the body so an object of 3/4" width cannot pass between the shooter's body and the inside of the speed loader/moon clip when the shooter is standing straight and upright. If the 3/4" object touches both the body and the speed loader/moon clip as it is passed through, the ammunition carrier is legal.

For new shooters buying equipment I would suggest they avoid equipment where manufacturers advertise the item as "designed for competition" as such equipment might well not be "suitable for all day continuous wear" and run afoul of the following statement from page 4 of the rulebook. "No 'competition only' equipment is permitted in IDPA....."

Based upon the above the two carriers pictured appear to offend 5 & 6 above.

ps There is a reason why our rule book is presently being re-written.
pps You are right the slot in itself does not make the carrier illegal. I will amend the post.
