When inserting a fresh mag in my Norc 1911A1 .45ACP, I have to press the mag release part way to allow the mag to fully seat. This has always been the case & I never thought much about it - they drop out perfectly. But I just purchased a Norc Commander .45ACP for a friend and hers does not have this issue, which has me wondering.

Is there any adjustment on the release? Is this common on a 1911? Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe it just needs to be smoothed out a bit?
So if you slam the mag in with the heal of your hand it won't seat unless the release is in?

could be the Norks mags that are not on the top quality margins...
buy new mags like Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat 47D and for sure you'll solve this problem
also try clean and also polish the rough edges on the mag release part ...my 2c

Its the mag release itself! It is a little bit big, and I had to file it down in order to cure the issue, as my mags were not dropping free because of all the out of spec, and rough dimensions of that mag release. Mine was really tuff and gritty to push as well. Some time later I got a bunch of STI parts in trade, and put that mag release in my Norc and it was smooth as butter! See if anyone has an old one kickin around, or put up a WTB add and just replace it. Unless it is one of the oversized ones it will be a direct swap.

I dropped the mag catch out of mine and my partners and compared them. Her Commander had a smoother bevel on the catch side the the mag contacts on the way up. I filed mine to a bit more angle and smoothed the edge and - bingo! I did put hers back - honest!

Thanks for the help.

I have/had a similar issue with my Norc 1911A1. Mags would go in, with effort. Not quite a smack, but a good firm press was required. A lot of mag seating/ejecting smoothed everything out and now all is well.
