Hey guys, you may remember me asking about the Glock 17 as an introductory pistol to compete with. Well I'm SOL for getting a Gen 4 model anytime soon, but there is a Gen 3 model available at my local retailer for almost 100$ less, brand new. Honestly I can say I preferred the feel of the Gen 4 more, but I can live without the extra features. However, the mag release on the Gen 3 seems almost stiff or as if it doesn't protrude as much as it should. I feel like I have to tilt the gun in my hand an exorbent amount to have the magazine release. Is this normal? If not, is this something that can be fixed over time by breaking the release in? I apologize for my newbie questions, handguns are all quite new to me. Thank you for your guys time!

You could try these guys - http://thegundealer.net/

Just call and see if they have Gen 4 17's in stock. I've had nothing but good experiences with them, but some people haven't.

This is probably the single most important quality in a pistol. Personally, I wouldn't settle in this area.

I agree. You will take it out to the range, and it will bother you every time you reach out for the mag release and have trouble doing it (gen3). You will make your own decision, but I have learned the hard way the best decision may cost more now, but save you in the future.

The magazine release tends to flex with the gun. On my model 17, it's hard to release the magazine without shifting my grip. Interestingly on my much larger model 21SF, it's easy to drop the mag. Guess the larger grip size puts things whee they should be in my hand. Why not get an extended mag release?
