Has anyone used one of these?

It converts your conventional percussion cap fired Kentucky / Hawken (...whatever) to shotgun primers. Essentially a large bore nipple which screws into your bolster drum (per normal) in which you seat a 209 primer into. You then screw on an integral cap / firing pin which seals the 209 primer into the whole assembly. No physical / structural modifications required, and the exisiting hammer strikes the firing pin protruding through the cap, setting off the 209.

It was only $20 Cdn, so I couldn't resist. Does anybody have any tips, pointers, (warnings?) regarding this product. It hasn't arrived yet, but don't know what to expect.

Thx, Hakx

I have read a magazine article on this sometime in the last 3 weeks.I can't find it to quote it,though. The jist of it was that the pressure of the 209 will push the ball a short distance down the barrel,THEN the powder charge ignites!
Hope this is pertinent,Regards Jed.

I've been using Triple 7 FFG with #11 caps,no problems thus far,I don't see what 777 or b.p. would matter?
I can see the 209 adapter being better though, hotter, larger spark would be more efficient and consistant would it not?

just my 2 cents

Save your money....way to much of a PITA. Especially when I have never had any problems when using real black powder. Huntsman...try using triple 7 or any other bp substitute in a flinter and you will see what the difference is. Consistently get about a 1/2 second hangfire.

Update,

They work great! I never had to "snap a cap" to clear obstructions, weatherproff, immediate ignition, no hangfires. Best of all, minimal (if any) venting spray on to your action or woodwork.

But...

1. If you lose the screw on cap, your hunt is over.
2. It looks kinda "clunky" (is that a word?). Really takes away from the overall look of the rifle. Well, I think so anyway.

I will use it until it fails., then put the musket cap back on I don't think I will buy another.
