i had my mossberg plinster out at the range the other day. this is my second time shooting it. first time out i put maybe 80 rounds through her without a single issue. this time out i had bought a box of better ammo, something a bit more accurate as i found the cheap stuff to shoot all over the place. it was winchester something or other from crappy tire, came in a fancy plastic case. anyways it would randomly jam up in the gun. wouldnt feed right and when id manually eject it the bullet would be bent as it comes out of the casing. this happened 6 or 7 times of the 110 shots i fired through her. i noticed at one point that it felt like the bullets werent sitting in the magazine very tight, this is my first and only .22, and any other mag fed guns ive handled have been a lot tighter to load but none were .22's. so im not sure if this is a weak mag spring or if the gun needs some oiling or what. any ideas?
 
hey man, are they hollow points or round nose. I know my buddies savage will only shoot round nose and will do what your saying if he shoots hollow points
 
I have a mossberg 702, and it doesn't seem to like the un-jacketed winchester ammo. My buddy shoots that stuff, so when we swap guns he starts getting jams and ftf's all over the place. When shooting bulk federal (with the copper jacket) i don't seem to have any problems. Maybe the 702 just doesn't like un-jacketed ammo?
 
i just checked, the bulk stuff is winchester target ammo and the other is the super x, both hollow point rounds. i didnt have the bulk stuff last time with me but ill bring it out next time and see if it jams up the gun or not. ive only got 100 rounds of the better stuff left so ill just pop it off and deal with it and try a different brand next time.
 
i would recommend the next time you go buy ammo, buy a bunch of the 50rnd boxes from different manufacturers and see what shoots best. my marlin 60 will shoot winchester 333 or 555 the same as cci standard velocity but will not shoot federal bulk pack or remington gold
 
i was surprised at how poorly it shot that bulk target shot stuff, were talking 5 inch groups at 50 yards with it. the better stuff i had a few strays but for the most part i was able to bury 5 or 6 shots into the same spot and make one big hole. ill take your suggestion and grab several boxes next time and see what it prefers.
