I am wodering what the opinion is on storing handguns with magazine safeties. Is it legal to store a pistol equipped with a mag safety with the mag stored separately without a trigger lock on the gun?

"Opinions" are irrelevant.

From the CFC Fact Sheet on storage:

Restricted and prohibited firearms

* Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is hard to break into; or
* Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.
* For an automatic firearm, also remove the bolt or bolt carrier (if removable) and lock it in a separate room that is hard to break into.

It took me three seconds to find that. Would it have killed you to tried to find out for yourself?

wasn't this part of the RPAL test / course? i don't recall the laws having "exceptions" like that...

If your restricted is stored in a safe, it does NOT need to be trigger-locked, and YES, you can store loaded mags in the same safe, provided they are not inserted into the firearm.

i do believe that restricted arms need to be double-locked: the case / safe is locked, and the firearm itself is locked either via trigger OR via cable through magwell.

That's a pretty big "or" brother, and makes all the difference in the world. Read it again while emphasizing the "or" I bolded and expanded.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are wrong. I'm not talking about a gun case, I'm talking about an actual gun safe. As I previously stated, if the restricted in placed in a "safe", the gun need not be trigger locked, and loaded mags can be stored with said firearm.

Replace "safe" with "cabinet" or "case", and all bets are off.

Additionally, the devil is in the details, and the "ors" and "ands" in the quote by Stevo are more often than not misread.

100% correct. This was just answered on another current thread direct from the RCMP.

If that's directed at me, it's unnecessary. I posted what you quoted in reference to the OP. He made no mention of a safe, only the use of the mag disconnect as a faux trigger/cable lock.

I'm quite familiar with the regs and FA.

Our laws are so stupid and vague. Completely open to interpretation based on the person who is trying to pin something on you...

Entirely correct especially since the word 'safe' has no legal definition, nor for that matter does the "secure locking device" which is a grammatically incorrect way of saying "...secure, locking device" and which could be interpreted to suggest that the device is secure and locking, not that the pistol is locked securely.

^ what's even more ironic is that a large number of firearms owners get wrapped up in the definitions and intentions of the specific words used in those laws, yet can't grasp basic spelling of common words on a daily basis. :p

but that's just my own pet peeve.....

there - their - they're

but yeah, you're spelling is ok

*cough*

ooh, spell-check FAIL! :p

Sorry guys, I meant to add that the restricted weapon would also be locked in a secure safe or locked drawer.
