interested in joining your ranks
but when I read that you needed 50 rounds loaded, my ego went down
I have a tikka t3 and it would take me 10 magazine of 5 rounds that in $ means 800.00
did I read correctly or not
please say I am wrong
Canuck from Quebec....

Tikka T3 (or in general bolt action rifles)is not the rifle to bring to SR - purcahse a proper rifle such as AR15 - it will be much more enjoyable.

You cannot play baseball with a crowbar....I know baseball bats and crowbars are both stick like objects......

Has stated in the NOOB wannabe questions "come and shoot with your rifle any kind"
all I want is good camaraderie and the fun of shooting my hunting rifle
I know I wont be competitive with the AR15 crowd just want some good shooting time with some shooting friends....
as stated also the match in the SR not carbine section are not exactly the same
all match are 2 sighters and 10 for the score so actually I need 2 5 rounds magazine and the original of the rifle for my sighters
not being a pro at the sport I mistaken the carbine and SR section
if I ever try the carbine match at very short yardage I will by a AR15 like you guys.....
hope I did not misread again...

It depends on which SR course of fire you shoot. I know that the traditional matches have been shot with Lee Enfields, even a 98K.

that it the traditional matches
I read more carefully last night and
it is like you say the one that is shot with old rifle and modern one
thank for the correct word to say Tiriaq ( traditional )

canuck4570:

When you say "traditional" SR matches, I am thinking about the Matches 1-12 that I've shot for many years. I've had great fun shooting these rifles and calibers:

* M70 .223 with 55 gr boolits, sporter barrel
* M70 Hvy Varmint .223 with 69 gr Sierra MK handloads
* M70 .22-250 Detachable box magazine with 55 gr PSP boolits (reloads)
* M700 .223 LTR shooting 68 gr Hornady HPBT handloads (barrel is a 9" twist)
* M700 .308 Police Detachable box magazine 125 gr Speet TNT handloads
* M14 both TRW, Winchester manufactured (back before 1995)
* M1A NM version and Standard version
* M1A Super match with Douglas Hvy NM barrel
* M1 Garand in .30-06 USGI issued barrel
* M1 Garand in .308 Douglas Hvy NM barrel
* M14 Norinco-Plinko with Douglas Hvy NM Barrel
* All kinds of AR platforms from 14.5" carbines through to 20" HBAR Colts

So you can see that with Matches 1-12, you can actually have a pile of fun depending on what boomstick you bring with you. :D

Now if you happen to be talking about the new 2010 Matches shot by CFSAC soldiers (this Sep 2010) and run by the ORA (Borden, ONT & Connaught Ranges, ONT) then your bolt gun will be severely disadvantaged and your really won't have a pile of fun because the rules from CFSAC have changed dramatically (good , bad or indifferent). That is what it is...

The new matches 1-4 are way(yyyyyy) more intense and flow much more quickly (read: really not fun for newbies) according to the expert shots we hosted. We ran 6 of them this season and I'm pooched! :)

I hope this input helps! And by the way, we have a poop-load of QC shooters from all around the Montreal area shooting our ORA matches. Maybe one or two of them will chime in here and provide the Quebec perspective. ;)

Cheers,
Barney

Canuck4570:

If you want to shoot the Matches 1-12 (I can recommend them with your bolt gun) at Connaught then the ONLY match being held there for this programme is the DCRA's NSCC held every year around the last couple of weeks in (I could be off by a few days) August. :D

The rest of the time in Ontario, for Service Rifle matches we in the ORA run the new matches 1-4 with the intention of providing training/competition venues for many Ontario Regular and Reserve units... and that's the mandate for the Ontario Rifle Association. So if you wanted to bring your bolt gun to our matches, that would certainly be a super challenging match. Now in the ORA's August Provincial Championships we ran at Mons West this past summer, several Canadian Rangers shot our Matches 1-4 using their issued Lee Enfield No 4 Mk1's. Wow, was that ever an eye opener. Many of them were very fast on the bolt operation and also on the magazine changes. :D

Hope this helps

Cheers,
Barney

I guess I should have said CFSAC Match 2. It is a match where you start at 100m and advance to 15m advancing and shooting as instructed. Small targets and short exposures make this match challenging.

FIBUA is short for Fighting In Built UP Areas. It is often used to describe matches that are shot inside of 100m but that is not really what it refers to.

It might be easier/cheaper to buy a Norinco M4 ;)
What you'd save on magazines and ammo (+/- 200rds per match) would pay for the new rifle!

If you ever want to chit-chat about SR, there's quite a few of us at CTM.

*edit*
I'm currently using a 20" HBAR (probably 10lbs with optic)... Doing the run down/snap/rapid/kneeling with a TRG22 would make for one interesting match!

This been said, I always have that secret wish that someone (withing reasonable driving distance of MTL) would organise a SR precision match (if there are such a thing)...
