Magazines for Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer

Here is the question for collectors of older firearms:

Will 38 Auto magazines for Colt 1902 Military fit and work in Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer? My understanding is they are virtually same pistols, Pocket Hammer being a civilian version of the Military with a shorter barrel.

Any help and advise will be appreciated.

I have a pocket hammer, but no 1900 or 1902 to compare it to... however, Triple K makes aftermarket magazines for these guns, and the same magazine is advertised for the 1900, 1902 and 1903 so I’d say they are interchangeable...

I have a 1902 Colt semi auto in .38 ACP Military and the magazine is longer than the 1903 civilian version. I tried a 1903 mag in mine years ago and it was too short and held one round less.

A word of caution for anyone with a .38 ACP; dimensionally the round is identical in size with the more modern .38 Super which is more powerful than .38 ACP. You could injure yourself or damage the pistol if you fired a .38 Super in your 1902 or 1903.

Yes, frames on Colt 1903 pocket hammer is shorter & take shorter mags.









+1 on the above about making sure you're shooting the older .38 ACP in these oldies!

so i just recently purchased one of these (off the exchange). pictures to come in Oct? anyone have any loads for this round. i did find some with bullseye. going to use a 124Gr .356 lead round nose.

I used 4.8 gr. of Unique under 124 gr. Campro bullet with the OAL 2.8". Makes for a nice smooth load.
