magazines for Kimber 1911 (45acp)

I just purchased my first 1911 and I'm pretty excited to get it out to the range. It's a full-size stainless Kimber in 45acp.

I'd like to get a few additional magazines for it but not sure if there are some brands to stay away from or if any recommendations on what others are using.

I know this is probably a Ford/Chevy, Coke/Pepsi, etc type of question but some general guidance would be much appreciated.
 
I've had good luck with the Chip McCormick mags. You can usually get a pretty good deal buying them in 3-pacs from Brownells. I have both the 8 and 10 round versions.
 
I am in the same boat as you. Just bought a 1911 and on the hunt for mags. What I’ve read and been told is that the most consistent and fail proof mag is the Wilson Combat 47. The 7 round version, not the 47D. The higher round mags tend to give more issues according to my reasearch. Currently I have two ACT mags, which actually get a reasonable review, but want a couple more so will try the WC mags. Lots of folks will say good mags help with proper feeding and ejecting etc. so I’m going to avoid buying cheap ones.

I often end up grabbing no name GI ones from the box, and they're fine.

I've only ever had systemic trouble with Remington mags and some off brand ones that Corwin had a few years back where the follower likes to pop out.
 
I have used Kimber pro teck 8 round stainless mag, BUT these are best used as 7 round with the slide forward as they mostly will not lock in with 8 rounds.

FWIW I have 5 of the McCormick 10 rounders....I've used them a lot in my STI Trojan and never had an issue. In fact, the 8 round mags rarely leave the drawer anymore.
 
I understand. Your 1911 is obviously dialed in. The info i have found covers a broad range of gun brands, with the high round mags having a higher failure rate than the standard 7 rounders. There’s an excellent video I watched on this. I will try to find it again and include the link.
 
I've used Chip, Wilson, Sig, ACT mags with no issues. ACT being the cheapest of the bunch. I don't own any MecGar 1911 mags but have lots of their CZ ones which have zero issues.
 
I picked up two Remington mags for my Norinco 1911. They are smooth and slick, look good and operate perfectly. Springs are lighter than the Norinco mags, but still quite strong. Got them locally for $28.00 each in Kitchener. I may get a couple more as I love the smooth finish compared to the sharp edged Norinco ones.
 
Every 1911 is a unique and beautiful snowflake. There's no way to tell what type of magazine yours will like without trying them out.

However, many say that if a 1911 doesn't work with Chip McCormick 8-rd Power mags, then there is something wrong with the pistol.

10-8 has an excellent section on their website about 1911 mags. Wilson ETM and Tripp Cobra mags are also highly recommended.
 
Thanks for all the info. I'm going to try out a Wilson Combat 7 round mag and see how the pistol likes it. If they seem to agree with each other, I'll
look at purchasing some additional ones.
