Well, hang on now? I don't believe the OP would be saving any money, but that's not to say what he's asking about can't be legally done?
As far as I'm to understand there is nothing in the US that prevents you from pinning a 30 round mag to 5? So, assuming that the OP is States side, he buys mags and pins them making them Canadian compliant. The border is the issue.
I'm not sure that a pinned magazine can make it across the border? Ammunition and even optics can't (stupid American gun laws that prevent the export, rather than stupid Canadian laws forbidding the import.), so if magazines are in the same category the OP is stopped dead in his tracks right there. Pinned or not?
However, if magazines can be exported, then all the Canadian side would be concerned about is the round compliance? He would conceivably be allowed to declare them, pay the taxes and bring them across?
If the taxes on magazines are anything like booze, it simply isn't worth your time or money OP. It'll end up the same price or even slightly more than what you would just pay here. But that's not to say it can't be done, it's just not worth it?
