Following on from my other thread I *hope* to pick up my 7.62x39 NEA 15 tomorrow and need a little guidance to source some extra mags

As I understand it they use a 10 round magazine and the research I have done suggests it is a LAR-15 or XCR mag

Is this correct? Are these correct for my application? If so is it the LAR-15, XCR or will either work

And, like everything in life, I imagine there will be good versions and bad - are there certain brands/models that are worth having/best to avoid?

If these are correct a lot of the places Ive found them advertised online don't have any stock - anyone have a good lead?

Thanks in advance

The LAR magazines are generally in .223, and the XCR magazines are in 7.62x39. They both fit each-others guns, but they do not interchange very well. Neither magazine feeds the the other's cartridge with much reliability.

Ok, so its XCR mags I`m looking for? With the correct mag/cartridge is the functionality good?

For your NEA 7.62x39 AR I think you will be fine with XCR 7.62x39 pistol mags. Don't get the 5.56 LAR-15 pistol mags or .50 Beowulf mags. They will not work with 7.62x39 ammo.

Good luck they are out of stock in most places.

But XCR mags are *NOT* all 7.62x39. There are plenty of 223, 7.62x39, 308, and rumor has it there are/were even some 6.8 SPC mags, all 10 round pistol mags.

E-Lander makes some 7.62x39 pistol mags as well, and ASC. The E-Lander ones are apparently crappy. NEA also rebrands them apparently. Elwood Epps is supposed to sell them. But they appear to be total garbage.

Hmmm, interesting, so are the ASC mags good?

If I could find them in the states (haven't looked) is there anything preventing me from importing them?

Wolverine Supplies is the importer / distributor for Robinson Armament products in Canada. What you are looking for are the Robinson Armament magazines which are clearly labeled as "RA Model XCR-L Micro Pistol Magazine Caliber 7.62x39 - 10 Round Capacity".

It does not appear that they have any in stock (listed on their web site) right now, but they will be your best bet.

Thanks, I will give them a call tomorrow

XCR mags is the item you are looking for. Also 6.8 mags will work as they are identical to the 7.62 X 39's.

ASC mags are decent from what i've seen, yes. And depending on the E-Lander ones, I have seen good ones, but I wouldn't risk it without handling them myself first.

C-Products makes good ones too but I don't know if they make them in 7.62

And ITAR will be stopping you from exporting them from the states. And homeland security. And men in black SUV's with big guns. And bubba in the jail cell you'll be in :p

CBSA doesn't give a crap to be honest, IF you get them to CBSA you'd be fine, but will have broken US law and that isn't a smart idea. (Well, I'll add a caveat - if the magazines are *clearly* pistol mags and marked as such, and you can show they only hold ten rounds, then you'll be fine with CBSA... if there is any question, they may detain the mags or you and the mags and confirm they are legal... if they decide they don't think they are, you're in for a world of hassle and hurt)

Can you tell if the indents on the side are deeper, or if the feed lips are farther apart, on either of them?

The indents are identically positioned. At first I was under the impression the feed ramps where different and found that it depends. If you notice I have two 7.62 mags that have one with a flat lip and one with a raised. Same can be said for the two like brand 6.8 magazines.

What is the deciding factor that dictates the feed ramp has me confused. However they all work with both cartridges in both AR's.

Here is another example picture that illustrates two new ASC magazines that have unlike ramps. I received them from the vendor in the same order. Even the two 7.62 magazine that have similar lips where received in the same delivery, however from another vender.

I have observed this on other metal magazines from alternate manufacturers. No idea why.

Purchase the 6.8's and I will reimburse you for them if you are not satisfied. I can always use more 6.8 mags.

Very interesting.

Have you found that those little divots on the two mags on the left (that extend out under the feed lips) cause any feeding issues, at least with 7.62? I had numerous feeding issues with them in my CZ858 until I filed those divots down to be almost flat. I suspect they were catching on the rim of the case.
