Thought I'd let you fellas know that I had to put Maggie down on friday afternoon after 12 years of loyalty.

She went down hill fast over the past two weeks and on Thursday she wouldn't get up to greet us at the door so we knew it was time.

My three sons and I dug a grave for her out behind the wood shed and put her in a box that I made a box for her. I think it really helped the boys with some closure.

Its been a rough weekend here in northern Alberta.

I'm sure going to miss her when I'm skinning a deer or breasting geese.

Next time you see your dog give it a scratch for ol' Maggie Mae.

My heartfelt sympathies to you Mumptia. Dogs are truly man's best friend and a great one to loose. Go get a puppy real quick.

I'm sure she had 12 great years. We have a 13 year old sheppard, and I give her a good scratch for you and Maggie Mae.

Oh man. Dogs definately don't have long enough lives. I would go to the ends of the world for my dogs, as they would do the same for you, no questions asked. Sorry to here about your Maggie. One of the hardest things to do, is to make the decision to have them put down, I'm sure you made the right one.

Very sorry to hear about Maggie :(. I feel you pain Mumptia. Take care and remember all the good times you had with Maggie while she was still around.

My wife and I are still dealing with the loss of our best friend Wiley very recently.

Try your best to keep your chin up. The departure of family is very hard to take :bangHead: :(

Thanks fellas.

We have a pup named Max (German Shepard / Husky / Black Lab) that we bought last year so Maggie could teach it some manners and it worked.

Our pup is a super well mannered 100lb machine that I'm sure wouldn't have been the way it is if it wasn't for Maggie putting the boots to him everyday.:)

We'll always miss her but the good memories far out weigh the bad ones and that's what will surface when we think of her.

That's a tough thing to have to go through. It was common practice for the kids to be involved with saying goodbye when I was young. While I didn't always want to, I certainly appreciate the opportunity now.

Remember the fun times!

well by,going on all the threads in the last while of all the friend,s and pets that have left us..
maggie is up there having a blast with them all:D
ruffffff ruffffff arrrrrrrrrroooooooo=r.i.p maggie

Sometimes I think to myself that god definitely made a mistake when he decided on the lifespan of a dog...

Cheers
Jay

My thoughts are with you man. I have been there 3 times before. Never gets any easier. The only thing wrong with those 4 legged fury buggers is that we usually always outlive them.

Sorry for your loss. I went right out and hugged my 13 year old chocolate lab "Otter" in honour of Maggie. This will be Otter's 13th waterfowl season and it seems like only a week since I brought her home....
regards Darryl

That settles it. I'm going to get a pup, probably today.

We have an old friend who is now deaf and slowing down. I have been thinking we better get a new pup soon as my old "huntin' dog" is not going to be around much longer. I saw an ad for some pups not too far away and called about them. But have been "too busy" to go and get one. (they are Springer Spaniel/Cheasapeake cross)

I know the feeling all to well. Been some quiet at my house. Having a hard time getting used to MAggie not waiting at the door when I come down the stairs in the morning. Appreciate the hug. It'll make Treena smile at supper today.

Best thing I ever did for my pup was to teach him manners through Maggie. Now its time for obiedence training; so far so good. 1/2 hour a day is working wonders with him.

Thanks Mommabear.

Briar has gone deaf in the last month, so I think I know what you are feeling. I am going to have to do the same thing, Funny, I was just looking at her pics of her first grouse, just outside of Kamloops, she tried to pick it up , but it was a blue and was too big for her, she dragged it backwards, and fell into a little ditch, with the blue ontop of her, came out crying, HEY DAD the bugger is after me! Funny-:D
I really feel for you, take care, Gunmedic.
