Looking for some feedback for those of you with experience with Magnaported rifle barrels. I have found a take off barrel for a .338 WM that is in need of a new tube. This new barrel however is Magnaported. I understand that Magnaporting is designed to deal with muzzle jump more than recoil, that is not an issue. What I would really like to know from those of you with experience with this system is how adversely it effects muzzle blast??? I am quite aware of the effects full brakes have, so I would appreciate comments about the Magnaporting system only. Thanks.

My 300 Weatherby is Magnaported and i have not noticed any increased muzzle blast. When i am at the range i warn people but no one has remarked about any increase in blast.

I had my first .375H&H Magnaported after I had been shooting it for a couple of years. I regretted it instantly, and eventually sold the gun because of that mistake. The porting did reduce muzzle lift somewhat, and felt recoil, which was quite tolerable before porting, was perhaps reduced slightly. The increased blast ruined my enjoyment of the gun. It was even worse for bystanders and hunting partners.

The only brake-equipped rifle that I have shot was a .308 so I really have no basis for comparison between braking and porting, but I have lost all interest in either one.

My 460 weatherby is magnaported, noise increase isn't noticeable with plugs in. No one else has complained about it either. I don't know what it has done to the recoil, as it came ported. It is no where near as unpleasant as the braked 338 lapuas.

It'll be louder than if it didn't have the porting.

It's true that magnaporting doesn't increase the noise level as much as most brakes, but it will be louder than a solid pipe.

How long is it now? You can always cut and recrown, a 338winmag doesn't need an overly long bbl.

I have owned a .338 and a .375 H&H that were magnaported ( I had it done) and could tell very little difference in the noise level of the report. A friend had his 7MM Rem Mag done at the same time, and the only difference he noted is that he could now watch the bullet strike game because of decreased muzzle lift in recoil. I have also had a .308 Norma Mag and a .338 Lapua Mag with muzzle brakes, and the noise levels were almost intolerable!

I would have no hesitation in buying a magnaported rifle, buy I am done with muzzle brakes.

its a good thing

I had my 338 wm done was hard enough recoil to have the trigger guard come back and beat up my middle finger, after I got it back from Manitoba it was great to shoot, more like a 30 06.It does make it louder for those next to you but who cares and in the feild you don't here it any ways
