Magna porting???

Primarily less muzzle jump, than would normally be the case. Its been a while since I shot a Magnaported rifle, and I don't recall if the noise is as ojectionable as it is with a brake with reaward venting. It seems to me that the Magnaport vents the gases upwards and outwards rather than rearwards. You might find that the muzzle velocity is slightly lower than if the barrel was unvented, but this isn't written in stone.

the noise is just as bad as a muzzle brake.... budy had his 30-06 magna ported... honestly, I think he wasted his money... granted, I was shooting my gun with my loads, and shooting his gun with his loads I couldnt sense any difference in recoil. my rounds were 185gr nosler with 57gr of 4350 and his were 165 gr hornady sst with near the same powder charge...

The original Magna-porting was the most effective muzzle brake.I had a R77 in .338 and carried it for over 20 years.Recoil is more tolerable IMO..............Harold

Recoil is not reduced as much as a brake - but there should be less muzzle jump. As far a noise is concerned - slightly louder if you are beside the shooter, not much difference if you are out in the open. Much like a good brake.

It is important when you clean the rifle to get all the cleaning gunk and debris out of the ports... it can seep back in and harm the barrel when fired. Also be aware that dust/debris can settle in the ports into the barrel and cause wear when fired.

When the barrel is clean I would wrap the ports and the muzzle with a layer of tape that will prevent dust/debris from entering the bore. It will harmlessly shoot off.

i have a magna ported 8 mag. not near as effective as a brake or as loud. i don't think i would pay to have it done and if really needed recoil reduction i would use a brake instead. it does slow the muzzle jump quite a bit.

My 378 has magnaports cut in it. I agree with everyone who says that it's not as effective as a brake for recoil, but it's also nowhere near as loud or ugly.

I used to wrap the last 4 " of barrel including one layer over muzzle with masking tape to keep $hit out. When you pull the trigger it's gone! The flash looks like a tiger tank.....Harold
