So I just finished putting magnets on two pouches. Had the idea for awhile and finally got around to doing it on a break at work. I think putting them on my Guga Ribas pouches was easier than most other pouches. I just used existing holes and tapped them. Then epoxied and screwed down cups for the magnets. Let it cure and dropped in the magnets. Mags are super tight on the magnets and easy to slide off. Total cost of maybe $50 if that. I'll post pics when I get home in the morning.

edited to include pics. man it's dusty at work, these didn't look so filthy when I had them in my hand! I like the fact that they are nice and tight to the pouches, not some big ass rig sticking out like some of the ones available.

Todd O. in Alberta makes the ones that a lot of the Alberta shooters use. I'll post pics when I get home. About the same price as the Ghost ones but a lot more durable IMO.
 
TAG has had their Enhanced Magnetic pistol mag pouches for a couple years now. They are so much better than kydex ones.

The great thing with the TAG ones is they come with an unlimited lifetime warranty.

I think you'll be quite happy with the way yours work for you!!

that was a rough cost estimate on them, I had the magnets and stuff given to me, and honestly have no idea what they cost. Gonna pic up a few more of them to do one more of my pouches and then a couple buddies as well.
 
Do you think it needs two magnets at top and bottom Rob? just curious. I think these could have helped at a recent level 3 match,..but I just hate the added weight to the gugas,...as they are heavy enough.
 
Looks like you will end up more than the IPSC max distance of the mag from your waist line (I might be wrong on this).
 
they weigh about the same as an empty mag, maybe less. so no real weight added. Since they are intended to be used for table starts and such, the distance from my waistline doesn't matter, it's only before the start signal that it matters. Once the beep goes, you can do whatever you want with your mags.
also using two magnets means the mag won't rotate out of position once it's put on, which I've seen happen to a number of people. I'd played with the idea of putting one large one in the center but decided to go with two small ones.

It look nice on a picture, but it may not work well for a one-handed pickup of multiple magazines (normally from 1 to 3 mags) as mag on the table is usually placed not on a side, but on the back side and there is too much distance between the magnets to snap two mags at the same time.

I've played with a bigger magnet on a front side of the first pouch, it seem to work better that way, but the magnet is getting on the way a little when picking up mag from a pouch, but then maybe I haven't got used to it being there.
 
I use the CR speed pouch and double alpha magnet with a bracket to go in front of the pouch. I did make my own bracket to lower the magnet some as i found it in the way slightly when reaching for the 2nd mag.

I run my first mag on it always so with mag on,its behind the hipbone and find the reload as good and have never lost one in 2 years and can place 2 mags on it for a table start stage one slightly higher then the other....

I had run magnets on the side of the pouches but found it to slow as i had to watch how they went on and i always was looking for them when it was time for a reload.

Sorry to s?&t in the fan ,but i was ask to not use this on the MIC 2009 cause of the specific waist line to torso rule 50mm

That was on of those CRO rule book NAZI

so it's a no go for prod and standard

IPSC would be FUN without those NAZI CRO

Whoever told you that was wrong Phil. If you are placing mags there after the beep the 50mm rule doesn't apply.
 
Magnets attached to belt pouches must still meet the divisional requirements with regard to distance from the body as they are still considered "allied equipment". They must, of course, also meet the requirements of being behind the hipbone for production and standard division.
 
Its not the magnets that matter its the magazines prior to the start signal

This has been an accepted "practical" practice for as long as I can remember. I just want to formalise it in the rules from 1 January, so that everyone knows the rule.
Also remember the historical reasons behind the 50mm and "behind the hip bone" rules, which are both to do with concealability. However with a table start, that's not an issue, and practicality dictates that after the Start Signal, you grab what you need and start shooting.

Rob is correct,....after the beep he could put the mags in a pocket,...his mouth or on a magnet attached to his belt.
