Magnetospeed Chronograph - first work out

wheelgun, thanks for the report, well presented.

I received my Magnetospeed about a month ago. I love it. I opt'd for the $275 unit (V1), it came with two cables. I found that while using the heavier cable, the unit missed a couple of rounds. I switched to the supplied retractable cable and have not had an issue since. I didn't experience any loss in accuracy but a slight POI shift 0.4MOA hot.

Well it has been a few months since the last post in this thread and I am just wondering how the Magnetospeed is holding up.
 
I bought one and after comparing it to my Oehler P35 ..... guess which one I sold .... My Oehler. I liked it, but the accuracy deviance was not big enough to be cause for concern. Now I can be set up and ready to chrono loads in 5 minutes instead of 40 min. If you do a google search there was someone nice enough to post their readings from both an Oehler and a MagnetoSpeed. I had similar results
 
Hey Mudduck, can you tell me for how long you have been using the magnettospeed. I looked all over the internet all I can find is reviews of brand new units and nothing on how they have been standing up after a lot of use.
 
I've been using it over the summer, (ver2) but based upon the way it's built I don't see what would go wrong with it. Everything seems well constructed ... But I guess time will tell. I love being able to set it up at any range even with shooters beside me and not having to worry about muzzle blast, lighting conditions etc

Yes those are the same reasons I am interested in this unit. Well I think this may be a X-Mass present to myself this year lol.

I purchased the v2 magnetospeed. Seemed to work just fine. The only hickup was the cord popped out of the bayonet midway. But that may have just been because of the terrible spruce grove bench set up. They have you put a stupid board under your barrel so the cord caught on it during my shots.
Otherwise i was very happy with it.
 
I sure do like the idea of not having to wait for a cease fire to set it up. My range is pretty busy so sometimes I'm kinda rushed setting up my chrony.

Not to mention I live on the wet coast and quite often during the monsoon season (October to july) I can't use it. There's enough overhang on the roof the magnetospeed wouldn't get wet. Not that it would matter with it anyway I'm sure.

I stumbled on this thread, and I think its very timely as I am myself looking for a chronograph.

On first glance I very much like that I can be used indoors, and that light is not a issue.

Further the quick set up and take down seems like a real bonus !!

I still have more research to do, but off hand, are their any Canadian distributors of said product, or must it be ordered directly from the US.

If direct order is required, is there any issues getting it up here?

got mine in the mail in 10 days from when it was ordered, but sometimes they are waiting on manufacturing but if they are in stock,

use the visa and shipped the next day united states postal service ground, I was going to be their distributor but not worth 10% profit

^I haven't noticed it changing my group size, just the POI (unless it's not strapped tight enough and changes the POI shot-to-shot). I will also say I am very impressed with the ease, you can set it up on the bench without calling a cease fire, use it without lighting, etc.

The only thing I noticed, and am wondering if this happened to anyone else, is that it started getting very slow and glitchy in very cold weather (I think it was around -15 or -18). Anyone else experience that?
 
Started with an RCBS chony, moved to a shooter, and now use Magneto Speed V2. As above, setup is easy and you don't have to go forward of the firing line. Biggest 2 points are: 1) It has been absolutely reliable and very accurate for me. The other 2 chonys dropped a significant portion of my shots. 2) It works reliably in cold weather. Both other chrony's dropped about half my shots at below -10. With the Magneto Speed, you can take the LCD controller off and put it in your inside pocket between strings to warm up. Batteries are in the LCD controller so warm as well.

No impact on group size.

Ordered from Magneto Speed website and shipped via USPS. No issues/problems. Is made in the US, so no duties.
 
Now able to offer this product. I have used it briefly as I only got it this fall. But right now, I am impressed.

Not so sure about not affecting group size but it just depends on how sensitive your barrel and load is to a weight hanging off the front.

Personally, I am using it now to get good speed values after I have confirmed the performance on paper.

Not cheap but it works. Essentially, US retail plus exchange rate.
