Hi all - is anyone using the above combination of technology? More importantly, are they using it successfully?

I've got a support call in to Magnetospeed down in Texas, but while waiting to hear back from them (very nice folks on the phone), I thought I'd see if anyone up here was either using the same setup as I've got successfully, OR if other folks are getting or had gotten the same error (with or without the exact same setup as I'm using) - if anyone did get the message and managed to figure things out, I'm all ears...

Background: the MS Sporter unit arrived last week, meaning I had to schedule a range trip to use it, where things went very smoothly. All shots were registered after I bumped up the unit's sensitivity setting (heavy barrel = larger distance from bullet to plane of sensor deck), and I was congratulating myself on making a useful purchase (not always the case...).

The trouble arose after I got home, when I tried to connect the Sporter thru the XFR dongle to my iPhone, in order to transfer the data from the Sporter to (eventually) Excel to spend even more time thinking about shooting, er, analyzing the data...

After some initial handshaking between the unit and the phone, I am consistently getting the error message "Data transfer Error!" on the XFR app on the iPhone when I try to do the "sync" operation (which moves data from the Sporter to the iPhone). The initial handshaking must be at least partially successful, however, as the XFR app does figure out that its talking to a Sporter, along with displaying the correct speed unit and sensitivity setting from the unit, but it doesn't get anywhere past that point.

I had to upgrade my iPhone from iOS 5.x to 8.4, as the XFR application requires iOS 8.1x or higher. I don't see a way on the Apple site to go backwards from 8.4 to 8.1, so I don't think downgrading the OS is an option.

Any experiences that folks have encountered with the XFR unit would be appreciated.

Cheers,
ShooNew.

Posting this in case this helps anyone...

Long and short, I contacted Magnetospeed support about this, specifying exactly the versions of phone, iOS, etc. They got back to me pretty quickly, and indicated they had forwarded the problem to their engineers.

Turns out the engineers couldn't get the XFR to work with the iPhone 4S, period, regardless of the level of the iOS the phone is running.

Magnetospeed were great about support - they took the XFR unit back for full credit, and actually sent me a V3 display in exchange for the XFR and the Sporter display (I wasn't quite sold on the one-button control system) - they totally didn't need to do that, as the display worked as per spec, but the gesture was much appreciated.

Looking forward to receiving the replacement display sometime soonish - it's good shooting weather here in Victoria this week!

Cheers,
