Howdy all,

Has anyone run into this issue? I was out in the cold (-12c) to map out how much velocity I lost in the cold. When I shot a string, the first shot was close to what I thought it should be. The second shot then dropped by 100 fps. Next shot by another 100fps. The next three shots didn’t drop any further.

Is this is a cold weather tissue or am I doing something wrong?

All is well. I had a very similar thing happen with my readings.

It took more than one shot to see the difference.

The cartridges had been in a warm building, then out to a warm PU truck and just before shooting, onto the bench, beside the rifle.

Temp was around -20C

First couple of shots were appx 100fps faster than the fourth shot and that's where it all settled out.

One thing I have noticed on magnetospeed, is that a build up of carbon on the sensor surface will have some effect on displayed velocities. It takes quite awhile for it to build up though.

Yes Sir. I always allow at least a half-hour soak, out of the box, in the cold temp of the ammunition to be tested.

Demonstrated that yesterday to a friend of mine who was sighting in with a box of 338 Win Mag that he had just bought from Hougens Sport lodge.
