WIll be hunting deer in fairly heavy cover this year, shots between 50 - 300 yards max. woul dyou say a 2x7 would be the ideal way to go? Or a traditional 3x9? Or something else? I cosidered a red dot but I don't think I can shoot unmagnified at more than 100 yards(My eyes are ####ty)..... I was looking at something in the 150 range like a Bushnell Legend...

This is on a 30-06...

i would go with the 3x9- in actual field conditions a 2 or a 1.5 x for that matter , basically just gives you a crosshair instead of irons to work with- you just begin to notice a magnification at 3, and if your headlights are beginning to dim, you may have to go to 4- you may also conider a larger objective to gather in more light- say a 40mm instead of a 32- my own personal preferance is a 4x12x40 but i deal with a lot of open country

i would have to agree with t-star, on my hunting rig i use a 3-9x40 and barely get past 6x most days

Well I have a3x9x50 on it right now but it looks funny, so I was gonna go down in size. I didn't really want to give up the light gathering though. so I am gonna go with something better than the Banner that I have on it, I was thinking of a Legend. My eyes aren't so good, thats why I originally mounted the 50mm. But after I had it shortened to a carbin it looks funny. Are the Dusk/Dawn scopes better or worse in low light conditions, when compared to a higher quality scope like a legend, assuming both are 3x9x40? I have alimit of around 150 bucks, and from what I can gatehr the legend is the one to go with in this price range.

the dusk-dawn thing is just a name, like anything else- the mechanics of a scope are magification and light gathering capability- everything else is coatings or a gimmick- if you work dusk/dawn,/low light you need a big objective lens which is what you already have- you'll lose that if you go down in size, and who cares about looks- the so0called sniper rifles look funny, but brother do they WORK- and that sunshade makes it look funny?- as far as the legend vs the banner, it's would be in the lenses and coatings as well as the mechanicals that it might be better- depends on the price- i'd prever a scopechief or elite series, but that's more bucks yet
