Magnification to see your shots at 100 yards.

Mount your target on a larger piece of cardboard. I like white but brown works just as well. I gives you two benefits, bullet holes are easier to see and you can tell if your bullets are flying point on or are yawing a bit at range. Another benefit is the cardboard helps eliminate "splash" from the back stop, which can tear up your target. Black is the enemy and unless you have a great spotting scope the holes are just hard to see. As mentioned good glass makes a huge difference or just buy a mid range or higher end spotting scope around 12-20X it will serve you in the field as well as doing range duty.

Thanks all. Finally got out to the 100 today for first time. It was a rainy day and seeing the 22lr with a 4-12 was doable but difficult for sure. After a few shots I was on paper but decided to wait for a clearer day to try for a proper zero and try for groups.

I did pick up a 6-18 crossfire II with a lighted reticle and had that on my Axis II in .223 (the 4-12 bushnell that was on this went onto the Savage A22 replacing the non adjustable parallax 3-9). That crossfire worked very well. The rifle didn’t seem to shoot too well with the Remington UMC stuff I brought but got just over an inch group with some Barnaul FMJ 55g.

So in conclusion I feel like 12x power is bare minimum for my eyes and a 22. But glad I opted to get the 18x setup.
