I've had one for several years - use it almost every time I work with small or "must be accurate" stuff. I spent too long working underground to use portable lighting - I want the light to be on me and pointed where I am looking, so I got the "Quasar Lighting System Model 6010" which is a frame with 6 LED lights that attach around the binocular lenses. Also got it with the "Optiloupe" which flips down and adds 2.5 power magnification increase. Very handy for checking something, but too small a focal length to do much work.
You've probably seen the chart on the doneganoptical.com home page. Mine is a Model DA-3 which is apparently 1.75 magnification with a 14" focal distance. Lens plates can be had up to LP-10 which is 3.5 magnification but only 4" focal distance. My setup works well for me when seated with the workpiece in a bench vise - like when filing or stoning something - or when lining up a drill bit in a drill press to a small mark on the workpiece.
I have worn glasses for over 40 years - progressive lenses these days - and have had no troubles using the optivisor.
