Does a shotgun have to be designated as a "magnum" to be able to shoot magnum loads? What is the risk of shooting a magnum load in a not magnum shotgun?

I bought a box of magnum buckshot, read the info on the end of the box that said 12 gauge, 3" and figured I was good to go. I ran it through my Lakefield Mossberg 400G, with no trouble at all. I then read the side of the box and saw that it said "You need a 12 gauge 3" magnum shotgun to shoot this" My 400G is chambered for 2 3/4 and 3", is there any problem with this?

Thanks!

No problems at all, "Magnum" is just a marketing term just like "tactical"/ect.

As long as the chamber of your shotgun is the same size as the shell zero issues.

Enjoy and welcome to CGN.
