Magnum primers vs regular?

So I find my self wanting to reload 9mm but I am out of small CCI 500 pistol primers. Any harm in using small magnum CCI 550 pistol primers instead?

Also, would it hurt to go the other way? Regular CCI 500 for .357 magnum loads?

Is the primer powder amount dependent or case length?

Magnum primers are a bit hotter than regular ones in addition to having a harder cup. Not sure the pressures on 357 but it seems to me that you might blow the odd one if you use regular primers. That being said CCI has the strongest cups out of all the primers so their regular ones would probably hold up decently as long as your not pushing +p loads.

So in short it's fine to use, just expect your loads to be a bit faster than using regular primers. Might not even notice the difference either.

I like to keep it simple and use small pistol primers for both 9mm and 357.
