I was in Wholesale the other day & bought some reloading supplies for my 9mm. Upon closer inspection they gave me 2 packs of Winchester small pistol magnum primers and 1 Winchester small pistol. Will the magnum primers create a dangerous or damaging load compared to the standard primers?
I kept the reciept so I can exchange them, but how much will the Magnums change the ballistic's of my reloads?
Thanks

The answer is twofold. Sure they will work but depending on the load your using yes they can increase the pressure over the " safe" working zones. There are many articles to support not using magnum primers when the load calls for standard primers. I would take them back and exchange them personally but you'll find lots of people on this site telling you otherwise, just don't play with your safety. Don't forget the primer makers have designed the loads using specific info, any changes can alter the pressures to usage levels.

Magnum primers burn a bit hotter for a bit longer. They're made to light hard to ignite powders and for cold weather shooting. Any powder can get hard to light in cold weather. There's no 9mm powder that normally needs 'em.
You have two different primers. You'd have to work up two loads. Nothing bad will happen though. I'd still take them back.
