Magnum Research .22mag Lite

I just got word from my wife that it has arrived. Its funny how one gets soo excited over a firearm. I'll be home this evening, and tomorrow I'll be at Milarms once they open up to get my trigger assembly.

I have emailed Magnum Research in regards to their explanation as to why the firearm can only shoot 40g or higher ammo....

Response and I quote....

"Under 40g ammo will cause undesired operation such as jamming and in some cases a blowing casing. Do not use under 40g ammo. Sincerely MIR Customer Service. "

Now I have researched lots on the internet and there are gun magazines who have tested this rifle with NO issues and great results using Horady 30g V-Max and CCI. With that being said, I'm going to give it a go an see what she likes.... IF I have NO issues it will eat what it prefers!!!!!!

I was chasing this dragon a few years back.
Then I realized that I'd be spending over $1K on a rifle that shoots a cartridge that is just like a .223 Rem

Ammo costs the same more olr less .223 Rem out performs .22 Mag at every turn, way more common, way more adaptable to reload for specific grain projectile etc

The more I chased one the more it just never made sense to me in general. The cartridge is redundant, the rifles that shoot it (espeiclaly the old 10/22 Rugers and the Magnum research) are way overpriced and command a ridiculous premium these days.
Must just be me I guess?

I do totally agree.

BUT.. I'm the guy that has to have one of everything pretty much. I also always seem to spend the most I can afford as well. I mean my 10/22 has almost no factory parts left. But it's what I enjoy....

Those who love their rimfire, LOVE thier rimfires!!

I may have went a little over board on the whole custom rim fire thing but it's a lot of fun to put these little buggers together and satisfying too when the shoot!

Today I went down to P&D Enterprise and picked up a nice Nikon ProStaff 4x12x40. Looks a tad large compared to the rifle, but it will work beautiful. It is really well balanced. I as well picked up the TG2000 at Milarms. I left with that and an 835 Ulti-Mag! haha.

I had a small issue when installing the TG2000..... the piece that holds the bolt back in the locked open position was too long by at least 3/16" of an inch!!! I had to take it apart compare the length to the factory one, then take a grinder with a zip cut and cut it off! That was frustrating when you pay over $300 for a VQ trigger assembly!!!!!

Other than that, the rifle looks very well built. I will have to toss in a VQ ejector, bolt buffer, and possibly a VQ firing pin.

Going out this Thursday to sight it in and do some grouse hunting while I scout for a good place to hunt deer.....

I see they use the same 10/22 trigger assembly.... so with that being said, I would also toss in a VQ TG2000 complete kit. I have one now and can't say enough good about it!

I would assume the ejector is the same as a 10/22 as well?? I also use a VQ firing pin and ejector on my Ruger....

I will agree the trigger isnt the best ... but it wasnt the worst I have used either. Any input on the best place to purchase the VQ TG2000 kit?

Love mine, shoots 30gn v-max the best. Have it topped with vortex pst 4x16x50FFP.

NO issues shooting 30g? I read online in one review the accuracy was amazing with the 30g V-max. I'll have to see if I can locate some! I have a few 33g Remington, and just a huge variety of ammo. Every time I see ammo I pick some up. IF I find the semi won't eat it, the Marlin MVSR will chew them up!

No problems with the 30g. Just when the gun gets dirty (250 rounds or so) it will sometimes FTE. CCI also has some 30 I'm going to try. I know what you mean about buying what ever 22mag you can find. I'll use it some day.
