"Mine's smaller" is just another way of saying "Mines bigger". The implication is that since mine's smaller I must be better. There many examples of this in shooting.

Mine's smaller = I'm better

I dont need that fancy stuff = I don't have that fancy stuff.

Nobody can handle that recoil = I can't handle that recoil.

Nobody can shoot that far = I can't shoot that far.

Nobody needs to shoot that far = around here short shots are the norm.

He thinks everyone should use whatever he uses = I'm offended that he doesn't care what I use.

All you need is a blank = All I got is a blank.

There's no difference = I can't tell the difference (occasionally means "I'll be damned, there isn't much difference under conditions that everything works."

It's so much easier with the translations; I'm surprised that there isn't an iPhone app for it.

As an added bonus here's a couple to translate women-speak.

She says "Fine" it doesn't = "Fine" There's not an exact translation in male English but the closest is "Eat feces and die".

"Do whatever you want" doesn't mean "Do whatever you want". It means "Fine".

Lot of wisdom in 1 post.

There is probably more lazy hunting done with .30-30s and .303s than .300

Glad someone called it. Nomex on. This ^ is true. Travel on bc/ab oilfield rds and see it first hand.

I’m stunned by the revelations on female translation in particular, have accepted “Fine” at face value for years. Now understand I’ve been standing on the edge of a cliff and didn’t know it.

There’s been a lot of talk about recoil in this thread and i’m no caliber expert, but I’ve shot a .338 Winchester Magnum with a muzzle brake and the felt recoil was less than a 30-06 or at least it seemed.

Because you had a muzzle break on it...the 338 wm will produce more recoil than an identical 30-06

Yes, of course, what I mean is .... perhaps felt recoil isn’t the most important thing to consider since recoil can be mitigated with a brake. Then trajectory and ballistics may be more important factors.

I understand the brake can effect accuracy too.

Made a joke on another thread about .338 for everything, but like you, I find the recoil from it (in a BBR), less than my 7rem mag (in an A-bolt with the BOSS). BBR is a lot heavier, which makes the difference. I'm seriously thinking of the 338 as my deer gun, with maybe a little downloading.

Have you seen our island deer....?
They are about 2 1/2 times as long as a 338 casing

Nothing wrong with it, and I will probably use it for that purpose this week :)

Can't be any worse than the whitetail we were shooting in North Carolina last year. I could pick one up with one hand by one leg. First one I shot I thought it was rabbit when I got to it. Hooves like a sitatunga.

Sitka Blacktail- the dog is just over 70 pounds. People talking about game being blown to shreds or turned into ground round if shot with a magnum are clueless.
