I found this amusing, lots of screaming and swearing! This dude had a double feed, tried to mortar his rifle to clear it and, well, you'll see! :D

Except for the collapsing stock part, this could have been me with a C7 in about 1991-1993.

That was, of course, with the thermold mags, but still... double and triple feeds were common, and often this bad.

We just had the original stocks, so when they broke, they didn't jam your fingers!
 
Where to start. No eye pro is a fail. Mortaring a rifle to clear a stoppage should be done with the STOCK CLOSED! Stopping the drill is a fail. Is there a timeout when someone is shooting at you and your gear chokes? Yelling "stoppage" is pointless. The other shooter likely didn't hear it, and really doesn't care. His only concern now is covering your area, which means yelling "cover" is a far better option and its universally understood by all parties involved. Yelling "cover" indicates that your gun is down, you're down, or both for whatever reason and your area and yourself need someone or several others to cover you and your area. The reason you called cover is a moot point. Other than that, it was rather funny to watch.

I haven't studied this, but on average, do people generally have the ability to yell the word "cover" way louder than other words, or is it that they can't yell "stoppage" nearly as loudly?
 
I think the guys handled that well: they have a good sense of humor. It's a training exercise and unexpected things happen, gear does fail. I agree with TDC on clearing the stoppage with a closed stock, but I also think that Magpul CTR butt stock should not have failed open or closed. I have one, but I won't have one for long. Thanks for the video.

Yelling most anything under gun fire is pointless.

The fact that one gun is no longer firing in a two man team is plenty communication enough. Your partner should have enough cognizant awareness that he should realize you are no longer firing, whether due to reloads, getting hit, or gun problems.

With some semi-decent training, you shouldn't have to do any talking. If someone is firing, do what you need to do (shoot, advance, get to cover, reload, objectives, etc.). If you don't hear gun fire from the direction of your team, well, someone is depending on you to start making noise.


But as to the video, that's just being dumb.

The video doesn't clearly show the stock being broken. And who knows, maybe the stock was an Airsoft version. Considering the operator, it wouldn't surprise me.
 
Wait isn't the point of this drill to exercise your handgun shooting in the event of a stoppage in your primary or if you run out of ammo in the mag. One would think he would take advantage of this situation and pull out his handgun to use and drop his primary which should be secured by a 1 point sling. Anyway just my take on it but maybe i missed something.

Generally, yes. Some drills are set for primary only to force you to work through problems and be more aware of your down time because you can't just dump the gun and go right to a hand gun.

You missed the point to my post. I never said/indicated/hinted/suggested that the word cover was more readily heard than the word stoppage. The point was that verbal communication of any sort is difficult at best. With that being said, adding more confusion by indicating what the problem is will neither improve communication nor speed up the reaction of your team/partner. As CarbineOne posted above, the fact you are no longer firing should be a clue. The specific reason behind why you're not firing is irrelevant.
