Okay Magpul CTR lovers....

I gotta wade in on this issue here, since I DO own a Magpul PTS CTR buttstock.

First of all the Magpul PTS folks are licensed BY Magpul to manufacture the Magpul goodies for the airsoft market. Magpul USA provides the drawings for the manufacture of airsoft related products. This way Magpul USA has some control over the QC of the copycats that can potentially reverse engineer their products for the poorly regulated airsoft makers and resulting market.

Okay, that is a condensed version and my broken pinky finger is tired of typing a lot. :D

So back to the report of the Magpul PTS (Professional Training Services or Systems) division who makes this CTR knockoff for the airsoft crowd.

* I have to say that side by side, they are identical. You cannot tell them apart, markings, plastic density (or whatever material), steel fittings, moldings, EVERYTHING is identical. Of course it's identical since the PTS firm in Hong Kong HAS the drawings to work from.

* Fitting the PTS (Hong Kong) CTR buttstock is EXACTLY the same method , wiggle room, sliding feel as my Magpul MOE on my LMT Milspec buffer tube. You cannot tell the difference.

* Function: If I blindfolded any one of you black rifle lovers, you would not be able to tell the difference. Yes , even the sound of the release lever is identical. Taste? Well, let's not go to far.... But I did mount this unit on and then dismounted it in order to mount my Magpul MOE Flat Dark Earth buttstock... Identical feel- even closed my eyes. :D

* Cost: I ended up paying $ 100 for this unit at a gun show and I'm glad I've got one. Is it cheaper than a REAL CTR ? Sure it is, because I've got this unit on my AR Carbine right now and it's great. I cannot wait another year or two after Obama Bin Laden bans them along with his hoplophobe (Jeff Cooper's term for people afraid of weapons) cronies. I have this unit NOW and I'm gonna compete with it this season, even if it don't match my Flat Dark Earth Magpul Basic MIAD pistol grip.

Here's where we part company....

First #####...I wish this unit fit the larger 1.17x" Commercial tube. My PTS made CTR stock fits ONLY my Milspec buffer 1.146" and I am really pisstov. I bought this unit not knowing which tube it would fit. I figured that the gun show table dude knew, but he just shrugged and said, "AR Carbine buffer tube..."

Let's get one thing straight... not only am I too fugly to deploy to some hot and sandy location, but I'm also too old and with NOT ONE, but  TWO hip replacements, I'm not going over too soon.

In short, my needs for some official (and near unobtanium reputation) Magpul CTR buttstock are very minor since my AR is merely a range queen. And that goes for the most of you black/green/ tan rifle owners out there. Come on out and shoot at your PRA matches instead of staring at yourselves in (flame suit on.....) the mirror.

Next #####, if I was heading overseas where I will find myself in a 2 way range quickly I would not trust my life and situation with this CTR PTS made buttstock. There I got that outta the way... Okay, how many of you are heading overseas with yer LaRue, Noveske, Magpul, Troy, VLTOR, KAC, & Yankee Hill kitted AR's ??? Okay, there ya go. We are weekend warriors and that's all the airsoft tries to be, nothing else.... well, except a cheaper price point, sometimes.

I'm not afraid to say that I've got some airsoft buttstock on my AR since that's all I need anyways, for punching paper? Who gives a poop? Besides, I've got 2 kids in post secondary, they get all the money! :D

If you are heading over to Asskrakistan on the next battle group, then fzck the PTS CTR stock, well maybe if you are staying in KAF... heh, heh, heh (inside joke) and get yerself an MOE stock, they are available at Brownells. Besides, you are reading the wrong report from the wrong (me) source.

Anyways, I hope I'm not pissing on anybody's parade here with all the airsoft bashing, but you know, it works for me. I ain't kickin' down any doors nor am I an operator, just punchin' paper.

I also hope that this sheds some light on the Magpul CTR PTS buttstock...

Buy what works for your game, budget , and finally LCF (look cool factor).

Cheers,
Barney

I wonder if/when PTS UBRs are going to be available, and if we can't authentic ones from the states, if theres any dealer willing to import them in from Hong Kong?

Ok, I'm the first to admit I'm not up on the magpul craze. Just checked gunbroker and a Magpul Moe can be had for $65. US. So what am I missing here???

Anyone want a mil-spec cuz I got one & did not know that the PTS were compatiable with the real rifle. Was to busy looking @ the $$$ to care if it was airsoft or ment for a real rifle. If you want it PM me and if your nice enough I will though in the rubber bumper too!
:D
LoL!
Airsoft...
:bangHead:

Clone UBRs are available, they cost about $130. But they are not MagPul PTS, they are a clone of unknown origin. I wouldn't trust one on an AR.

So if by the sounds of it, it is basically identical, why would someone not take it overseas?

Is there a difference in materials or something? Not up to head cracking standards?

:agree:
That's why I got a buddy that live's in Florida to ship me the real deal. Plus maybe a few other of the unobtainable verity. But I am not going to mention his name cuz last time I mentioned a American seller that ship's to us Canucks everyone went nutz email bombing him and phoneing him off the hook! But if your crafty enough you might figure out who it is that I am talking about!
;)

They look the same but are made with cheaper materials.

Probably a regular old plastic, not the high strength polymer of the real deal.

ArmedSask:

You are probably right when you mention the plastic of unknown origin versus the high strength polymer. Remember, that for that price, I ain't taking it overseas, that's why I also bought an MOE Magpul in fde brown color for my milspec tube.

I really did not like the multicam factory paintjob, but I figured that if I painted over it, I might fxck things up royally. So right now it's parked and the Magpul MOE for the same price is mounted on the Armalite M15.

Why? Your review seems to lead the other way...
