Magpul forend quality issues?

I'm partial to theseforeands and have (1) on a 590A1 and (2) on 870's. The ones on the 870's are both making contact on the left side of the barrel and are rubbing through the finish. My 590 has no issue with this at all.

It's not a matter of me torquing the forend when pumping it. I initially thought it might be this, however, it looks like there's far more clearance on the right side of the forend as compared to the left.

Anyone else notice this on theirs or could I just happen to have (2) defective forends?

The Magpul shotgun stock is awesome.

But the forend sucks.

Throw it out and get something else. Hogue was a good suggestion.

I personally like the feel of it. You can file down the ears on the anti-rotation tab to reduce the rubbing.

Thanks, for the insight. What does that part look like that you're referring to?

I'm more inclined to have the parts replaced where it's an apparent defect but if that fails, I might do some modifying.

For those recommending Hogues - I agree. They're great forends. However, the colours don't exactly match with the SGA's I have (Stealth Grey & Magpul FDE).

Are you using after market 870 barrel's ?

Friend of mine had this same issue , He's using a heavy 14" barrel on his 870 and it does bind some .

2 different 870's. One has a 12.5" DA battel and the other has a standard Rem Express 18" barrel. The DA shows the most amount of wear but I think that's coincidental and nothing to do with the fact that it's aftermarket.

The forends aren't binding. They're making contact but there's no feel of resistance.

Cover the forend in a marker or something and cycle it and file down where you see the marker worn off on the forend. That's what I did on a forend I had on my grizzly.

The anti rotational tab is the little part that goes on it to stop rotation. It's in the manual. It has "ears" so to speak to accomplish this. If you are having rubbing or binding issues just file the "ears" to reduce the contact with the barrel.

Wish they'd molded in some textured grip like their 1911 grips to make it more grippy. The stabilizing ring on my 590a1 rubs along barrel near the end of the stroke. I might put a file to it.

I agree, I was planning to stipple it. I have heard of good results doing this.

Just don't take too much off as it can make the forend a little more wobbly when in the forward position.

I was just going to use skateboard tape. I don't trust myself to stipple it. Thanks for the tip on the stabilizing ring.

Magtape is another thing people have been using.

Oh cool. Who carries those?

Edit: Found some on the US Amazon site for $13.US but shipping was $53US! Tried to order direct from Maggrips but shipping was $44US! Anyone in Canada carry these? Worst case I'll have to ship 'em to the border.

Don't waste your $. They don't stick well and tend to come off. They are just rebranded 3M grip tape strips.
