Magpul Goodeness

Its a reliability issue as well. I have had a few problems with the LAR 15 mags but zero issues with pmags. I always go with reliability.

Of course reliability is the first priority. If your AR doesn't play nice with LAR15 mags they aren't an option for *you* for any serious purpose. I've got Emags that are 100% reliable in my hk mr223, but my LAR15 mags are 100% as well. Ten on a closed bolt works perfectly unlike some reports I've heard.

I just took a look back through my notes and there are only three matches where I as a civilian would run LAR15 mags over 5/30s. Matches 1.7, 2.2 and 2.3. Everything else I would be running 5/30s. I shot most of CFSAC 2010 with 30s loaded with ten rounds. I like the finality of a locked back bolt. Run a 5 or 10 round mag until empty and you shot 5 or 10 rounds. I guess I don't like to count unless I have to.

So what would you recommend for total number of mags and type (5/30s and LARs) for a Civi to invest in if they want to start shooting Service Rifle?

For the DCRA matches I carry 4x 5/30s (The CF Vest only holds 4). One for sighters, two for the matches and a spare. 10 round mags are of no advantage as mags can only be loaded to 5 rounds as the mag change is part of the match.

If I was going to be shooting the new CFSAC style matches I would stick with the 4x 5/30s and add 2x LAR15 mags. Being able to load mags fast would be important to not becoming "that guy" and always being last man ready.

I just received my first batch (I'm sure there will be more) of 30/5 round PMags from Dynamite Monkey. These things are magnificent!!!! What a well made product. I love em" !!:)
