Magpul Maglink

Yeah that's what I'm saying.
Not sure they can ship them though, I think they're ITAR restricted, aren't they?

I'll see if I can dig out a single pouch later and try it, then followup with an updated picture. Nope, you're good to go on ordering them from Brownells. 5 will run you about $85 plus shipping (just don't choose UPS as a shipping option).

So I tried the setup out on a Blackhawk magazine pouch and it actually worked pretty good. This pouch has a lot of elasticity built into it, so it accommodated it very well. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for this particular application, as while the pouch is relatively shallow - it has an extended velcro flap that I had to fold in half in order to fully insert the magazine and accommodate the coupler.

I probably have the minimalistic amount of tactical gear, but I imagine OST has something that would fit the bill (if one doesn't already). It was a bit more of a challenge getting the magazine into the pouch (since you don't have the same kind of leverage), but removing it was seamless. In fact, having another magazine and coupler to grasp actually made it quite easy to remove.

Just for clarification, I installed the Maglink on the 2nd-3rd "rib" on the first PMAG, and the 3rd-4th "rib" on the second (they need to be staggered). I also used Magpul's ranger plates because with the coupler this low, there's really not that much to grasp (especially on the second PMAG). Two is probably overkill; you could probably get away with just one on the second PMAG (the one where the coupler is mounted the lowest).

As mentioned above, I have this particular setup for use in the Tavor (which needs the extra room to clear the longer mag well).

I have the same pouches but I run them with the flap removed (they're only held on by velcro). Did you have to fold down the velcro on the front of the pouch that the flap fastens to? How secure is it when attached to your rig and actually worn?

Fast Mag pouches would probably work better as there is no velcro to get in the way, plus they are more rigid. This looks like it will probably work for me though.

Yes, I had to fold the velcro fastener (that made it a bit more tedious inserting the magazine). How secure? I never loaded the magazines with any ammo, but I would say as long as you're not hanging upside down you'd probably be ok. ;)

search amazon, Action Gear ships to Canada. 99$ + 3$ shipping for 5. And unlike brownells they will ship USPS so no UPS duty fee BS!

I'm quite certain that Brownells uses USPS for shipping. I NEVER use UPS after my first learning experience.

I've always had to pay a $5.75 flat-shipping rate every time I used them for small items. Biggest thing I must've ordered from them is two 10 round 1911 magazines.

I had one of those Magpul forends on pre-order for a while and the payment went through yesterday for it (yay) and the shipping looks to be double that, though.

Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago and I finally got time to try them out at the range in the type of setup which you show above.

I have six pairs of mags with couplers and ranger floorplates on them, stowed in Blackhawk pouches with the flaps removed and the velcro folded over.

Pros:
  • The mags are easy to get in and out of the pouches.
  • Loaded to five rounds each, there is no concern about the coupled mags falling out of the pouches at all.
  • Reloads are ludicrously fast. I didn't time myself but it felt like when I was "on," I could do it in just around or slightly under a second. If I practice enough I'm sure to get smoother.

Cons:
  • My vest is a little more difficult to get on with the mags in, as they are top heavy and want to tilt the two halves of the vest when I am trying to zip it up. (no big deal)
  • Slight amount of bulk, but I was still able to let my carbine hang in front of my with my Vickers sling no problem. Not really a problem when compared to my own bulk :p
  • When you have the right hand mag in the gun and the left hand mag upside your receiver, it gets pretty hard to hit the ping pong paddle. You can do it but it becomes more of a fine motor skill rather than mashing the button, which means of course that it slows you down if you run the gun dry. I've ordered a B.A.D. lever to alleviate this (I was already thinking of it anyway). I think I'd about say that if you are going to run these couplers, the B.A.D. should just about be considered required equipment.
  • Should have realized this ahead of time, but these couplers pretty much make my mags useless now on my SL8 with the AR magwell adapter. Since the mag release is on the adapter, the left mag ends up covering the mag release when you have the right mag in the magwell. Guess I'll be ordering some more mags sometime soon...

So far I'm very happy with these couplers. The one thing I'm going to experiment with is whether or not I should keep using Ranger Plates on both mags in each pair or whether I can get away with just one. I don't know that the second ranger plate is really helping me much but I need to fart around some more in both configurations and see what I think.
