How much fitting is actually required to get these things to go on? I just got my Norc M4 today as well as the handguard and before I dive in I was hoping some of the people who have done this before could share their tips and experience.

Thanks.

How much fitting is required? A heck of a lot! I ended up ruining my MOE handguard trying to fit it. I eventually bought a DD EZ rail hoping it was just a Magpul thing, which it wasn't. I found that the front retaining ring was undersized on mine and ended up replacing it with a DPMS. After that the handguard fit perfectly.

It took me a couple of hours with a Dremel to carefully carve away some of the inner tabs on the front of the handguard and slim down the rear part that fits under the delta ring. Carve and fit, carve and fit, carve and fit - you get the idea. In the end it was a solid tight fit.

I ended up replacing it with a Daniel Defense Omega 7 free-float rail from Wolverine. That install took all of 5 minutes.

I brought out the digital calipers and started measuring both the stock handguard and the MOE and they were almost identical (down to the 10th of a millimeter) on every measurement. The only place that the MOE was different was that it was slightly longer by 1mm overall between the tabs front and rear. I may try and shave a little off and give it a go tomorrow after it's first trip to the range. It was a two person job for me just putting the stock ones back on so it should be fun with the Magpul one.

Anyone else?

About 1/2 hour to trim with a file and Dremel sanding drum, nice tight fit been on and off a few times still fit and work well. The hand guards can be difficult to get off regardless of the make, there is a removal tool available.

ekimox... You are correct. I believe I also sanded the outside diameter of the main front and back "rings" as they were also very tight.

I am pretty sure it would not have fit without the tab removal. At least that was the case on my CQ.

Got mine on last night. It wasn't nearly as bad as some of the others had made it out to be. The top hand guard went on very easily. The bottom took a bit more finessing but it's on now and TIGHT which I'm happy about. It could use a tiny bit more fitting to get it completely perfect but for now it looks, feels, and functions great and I'm happy just to shoot it as is.

Thanks for everyone for their help. I promise to post pics when I'm not so busy. I love my "Norcpul" M4!!!

There was no way mine were going on without a little fitting. In fact the only way I got the bottom one on was after a little filing and the help of wifey.

For anyone considering doing this it is not in any way hard to do so don't let it deter you.

I'm really happy with the result.
