Magpul P-Mag Gen 3 Issues?

Having the same issue with some DPMS magazines that I just got from Wolverine Supplies for my XCR-M. Was just about to make a thread asking if it was advisable to sand down the rivet heads a bit... Didn't want to go so far as to "accidentally" completely file the head off. ;)

I've purchased PMAGs from a lot of dealers and experienced similar issues as the OP is describing. The rivet job by CTCS is in a whole different league...absolutely perfect.

Easy fix. Instead of using a file I just used my angle grinder. Each mag took about 10 seconds and now drop free from my XCR-M without issue.

(DPMS 5/20 .308 mags from Wolverine Supplies)

The recent Gen3 Pmags I got from Questar are 'premium riveted'. They are as flush as can be to the mag body and drop free nicely. If only all 'rivet-iers' were this good at their job.:)

This has got to be one of the most commonly asked questions on this site. a quick search would show plenty of these posts, and you really have to ask? Its rubbing.. file it down.. its a rivet.

Buy better riveted mags?

The ones I have from CTCS are stellar.
^ This...CTCS' guy that pins their mags is amazing. perfectly pinned to 5.5 with countersunk rivets. It's good to learn how to repin them yourself which is what I did when I purchased my first few pmags but it's better to buy them from a company who pays the right guy to pin them.

Be careful with the angle grinders and dremel tools, if you get the rivet too hot it will soften the plastic and it will get loose. Luckily I found this out on a crappy old mag (non pmag) that was unreliable anyway.

My problem with the Gen 3's I picked up last batch is that 2 of the 5 I picked up will hold more than 5. I took them and set them aside for further investigation. I will either need to put a new rivet in a little higher or a longer rivet so the follower actually hits it.

Our laws are definitely stupid. Neutering a magazine is a sin and doesn't make anyone safer.
Of course a criminal using a firearm in a crime is going to leave the rivet in because he wouldn't want to break more than one law at a time.
The only positive thing about our stupid mag capacity laws it that we get lots of practice changing mags so we should be really good at it.

Your new rivet position might be too close to the old hole.

I'd suggest instead that you consider using JB Weld, build up the area at the back of the follower, and file to adjust the capacity to proper amount. Sucks, but at least a workable solution, I think.
