Umm Yes really. Was it an absurd question to ask? Is it common knowledge? Thanks for posting friend.Really ?
There are actually separate divisions of the same company Magpul Dynamics and Magpul PTS. Magpul Dynamic is the US based company geared to the firearm industry, while Magpul PTS is based in Hong Kong for the airsoft industry.
Airsoft is huge market in Asia, but due to ITAR and other regulations getting genuine mil spec parts was almost impossible and prohibitively expensive, so Magpul set up Mgpul PTS to tap into the Asian airsoft market.
Distinguishing the products is relatively simple, in part most PTS products are marked for "professional training use only", so when you are buying them online make sure you ask for detail photos from different angles , however due to the popularity Magpul products there are a few knockoffs being made they are nearly impossible to tell.
Just to correct hbean, Magpul Dynamics is actually the training division of Magpul. The company Magpul is what makes the stuff for actual firearms. The products made by Magpul are made in the US, whereas PTS products are made in Hong Kong. The PTS products are PoS and will not stand up to the rigors of being on an actual firearm, even though they cost the same.
PTS products where I source them from are half to 2/3 the price of regular magpul products. The fact that I can only use most of the firearms I buy magpul products for at the range kind of negates the need for milspec equipment. If I was able to take my AR out hunting or play in the wilderness that might be a consideration. I purchased a PTS AFG2 for half the price at an airsoft place and it is identical in fit and quality. Plastic is plastic I see no difference in a $399 magpul stock and a $168 PTS version of same.
its an easy mistake to make. I just cancelled a pts order last week when I figured it out. I doubt PTS resin is compatible with 3" slugs
You can come down to the shooting center and be the first to try the trigger if you'd like!

PTS items are made in the same mold , but the formulation of the polymer is different.
PTS stuff is not a composite polymer and so is much less resistant to cracking and failing under recoil or hard use.
But if you are looking to "Magpulize " your safe queen AR that sees 100 rounds a year maybe, I'd say go for it. Put some nice clone optics on it for good measure.
a nice Fakotec or Clonecog will finish the look if not the function.
Check where ATI, Tapco, CTS is made I think you will be surprised.
Why, are they made somewhere that also makes good quality stuff?
