I find this interesting (taken from the Magpul site):

"Constructed of reinforced polymer, the Rail Light Mount nearly eliminates light compatibility concerns by conveniently including everything you need to mount Surefire 300 and 600 series Scout Lights, 1913 Picatinny attachment pistol lights, and all light bodies from 0.75" to 1.03" in diameter via the included set of anodized aluminum mounting rings."

I've seen a lot of offset mounts out there but I've yet to see one that's capable of mounting more than one type of light. The ones I've seen require you to buy different models depending if you need rings, a Scout mount, or a Picatinny rail section. All for under $30 too... If I'd known this was coming out a few days ago I'd have saved myself 50% on the Gear Sector mount I had to order for my Scout.

The joys of polymer I suppose. The savings in that material as opposed to aluminum I gather gives them the ability to include the varying ring sized for lights.

I think though, I would still prefer the rail mounted portion to still be aluminum.

But for $30, seems like a good gig.

Kinda like the plastic version of the thorntail mount. On the other hand, putting the lens infront of the muzzle gonna cover the lens with soot in no time, as in the demo pic.

The cantilever solution is excellent for mounting light on the original short carbine handguard.

Quoted for truth, I have the light on my 10.5 mounted right next to the muzzle. On my last low light course I was about 35 yards out and had to sit out an evolution because I couldn't identify the target. At first I thought it was just that my light was not cutting it, but then I clued in that the lens was probably dirty. A quick wipe with my gloved thumb and all was good past 50 yards.
