Hello, I have one of the CC IUR rifles with the green collapsible but stock and I am not too fond of the stock. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace it with a UBR?

Thanks
Chris

Yup, I'm using the UBR on my IUR. Feels surprisingly well balanced. You don't need an end plate, castle nut, or buffer tube to install.

AR's = big kid lego

Go for it - not a difficult changeout at all
But unlike most (all?) of Magpul's other stocks the UBR requires the removal of the buffer tube and the installation of a new one, right? Not super hard but it's a challenge without the right tools.

Correct, much like the PRS you will require taking off your old receiver extension to fit the required one.

1) remove buffer + spring
2) loosen castle nut
3) spin out the receiver extension (keeping an eye on the buffer retaining pin and spring - apply pressure with your finger as the edging of the buffer tube loses contact to prevent it from flying into space)
4) reverse steps

Required tools:
AR castle nut wrench

Additional tools for ease:
- vice + lower AR vice block

There are ways to do it without the wrench as well if your crafty (hammer + punch), etc.

The CC nut also requires the older pin type wrench, and you'll need a punch to reverse the staking.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies! Yes the ring with the holes in it (castle nut?) That is on the buffer tube and right against the receiver is what was making me hesitant.

I definitely don't know what you mean by the staking but I will gibe it a shot!

Did you buy the IUR "enhanced" complete kit or was the rifle built/pieced together by someone else?

If "enhanced", chances are it has the staked castle nut as mentioned above, otherwise if it was a built rifle, there is a chance it used just "regular" parts and unstaked.

Here's a quick video on what staking is, and some of the steps you'll need to follow (along with a quick shot of the tool you will/may need).

Cheers

Hello it is the complete enhanced rifle. Thanks for the link! I wonder if reinstalling the castle nut is a good idea? Any thoughts Freddie.v ?

I had to check this on my rifle to confirm it but since you're not using a receiver end plate there's actually not even a place to screw on a castle nut.

Hi Guys, picked up one of the wrenches and did the swap today. Thanks a lot for the help! One error I committed is when removing the castle I also ended up spinning the sling plate and it kinked the takedown pin spring. Seems to work ok still so will just go with it for now.

Impressions so far:

1) This thing is solid, no wiggle at all - that is one thing I did not like about the factory green stock that came with the IUR.
2) The weight seems to balance the rifle nicely.
3) Looks badass!

One question, should I keep the stock Colt Canada sling plate, castle nut, buffer tube and stock assembly or sell them?

Thanks,
Chris

I'm personally keeping every CC part I replace. So far I've swapped the trigger group and charging handle. I want to be able to restore the rifle to original configuration.
If you can afford to keep it, keep it.

You should sell me the green butt stock for a price that I consider reasonable. :)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies. Once I have swapped all the parts I want to (green CC stock, buffer tube, castle nut, sling place, green grip and charging handle w/tac latch) I will probably put the package up for sale but not be too worried if it doesn't sell as it seems that everyone thinks it is a good idea to keep everything.

Thanks
Chris

Hi guys, short update.

Turns out Colt Canada parts sell pretty much instantly on the EE.

The UBR has been great, balances the rifle out well and is rock solid, I would 100% recommend the stock. A little weighty but the balance is great.
