Mags from one Savage Mark 2 don't fit in another Mark 2 - why???

I have an older Savage Mark 2 (rifle A) with 3 mags. I just bought a new Savage Mark 2 (rifle B) that came with 1 mag. All 4 mags fit in rifle A perfectly. Rifle B however is having trouble with Rifle A's mags. The mag that came with B fits B very well. One of the A mags fits in B fine, one of them will go in with a bit of force, and one I cannot get seated at all. Has anyone experienced this? These are all identical mags that are meant to fit any Mark 2, and so they should work equally well in both of my rifles. Could there be a problem with the mag well on the new rifle (even though the mag it came with fits perfectly)? Could this possibly improve with use?

There are lips behind the mag body, meant to accept a guide that sticks out from the rifle (next to mag release). Maybe the lips need to be adjusted as the guides are not the same dimensions.

Trouble seating the fully loaded mags on a closed bolt? Or with the bolt open?

baldabe is correct on the possibility of adjusting the mags. However, this should be a warranty issue if you don't want to deal with it yourself.

I'd guess that it *probably* won't get better with use.

Upon closer inspection, the strip of metal that makes up the forward-facing wall of the magazine was slightly bulged outward at the top on all 3 of my older magazines (particularly bad on the one that wouldn't seat at all in the new gun). With some bending I was able to get things back to a point where all the mags will seat in the new gun. I still don't understand why this issue did not prevent them from seating in the older gun. It also appears that this deformation of the metal is something that occurs with use over time. The mag that came with the new gun did not have any trace of this problem.

Identical to your eye perhaps. But your eyes can't see bacteria and viruses either but they can still mess up our day. It only takes a few thousandths of an inch of metal to mess things up. You need to get some calipers and measure the key points on the magazines that controls their seating depth and the distance from there to the steps along the rear where the spring catch holds them in place. I'll bet you will see some differences in the readings. And that's all it takes.
