Bought a few LAR 15 pistol mags, and a 5/30 CPD mag. None of them retain in my lower. No matter how hard I seat them, I can always pull them out without touching the mag release.

Try trimming a bit off the bottom of the followers. When loaded to cap, most have a hard time seating the mags on a closed bolt.

If you push the mag release button then grab the retention bar on the left side and pull it further outward it can be turned in and out to adjust it slightly. I've never had an issue with any of my AR's but it's something to try.
Is this a new or new to you lower? Did you buy it assembled or put it together yourself? Is your lower an NEA/BCL by any chance?

Yes, its a new BCL lower. I tried adjusting it but had no success. I can just flick the gun, and the mag will drop on its own

Contact BCL or the retailer you bought it from and explain the issue. If possible get your money back and buy an Aero Precision lower. Aero are not much more money and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who has bought one and found it to be out of spec. NEA/BCL are WELL known for building parts that don't fit.

try buying a new mag catch.is the magwell tight or loose?it should be tight enough that there's no play but not too
tight that the mags don't drop free.By the way i did buy an aero precision lower recently and found it to be very nice.

I would hold off on this until you find out if you can get a replacement or a refund. Don't mess with it unless they won't replace it.

Its a little wobbly. I also have a lower parks kit already totally installed, so its going to suck, if I need to go with a whole new lower.

Guys are too quick sometimes to dis NEA. I have had great luck with their lowers and other parts. That said I spent a day on a military range last week and had and witnessed many Colt C7s drop mags out!
As mentioned, the mag catch is simply out of adjustment and just needs to be turned in more. Make sure the end of the catch is turned in flush with the button.

I bet because that stupid ambi mag release they put on the newer C7A2s

I seem to have fixed it. Took the mag catch off, and saw that there was a little excess material. Cracked it off with a punch, and it seems to be all good
