Mods, if this belongs in legaleese, forgive me  I figured I would get a quicker response here.

I would like to purchase some powder from cabela's canada (sir), but I have never 'mail ordered' powder before. Are there any hoops to jump? Do they send it out just like buying bullets and brass?

And while I'm asking, are there any hoops to jump through when ordering primers mail order?

Thanks in advance!

You will incur the extra $15 Hazmat fee on top of the shipping charge. If you buy 21lbs or more at Higginson you get free shipping (but you still have to pay the Hazmat)

I have also ordered from Hirsch Precision in PEI

I have had no problem getting powder by mail order but did you consider Higginsons Powders near Ottawa? It is where I get mine from.

Yeah, that's where I bought my Lee press kit :)

I wanted to get an order of brass, some Sierra bullets and such from SIR, and they have the powder I want so, I figured I might as well just order from them. I wouldn't mind saving the $15 HazMat fee and order locally but my local gun shop has taken 4 weeks to get me .308 Win brass in when SIR can have it here in 5 days! I'll gladly pay the fee to knock off 3-4 weeks of waiting

higginson powders is a very good place to buy your reloading supplies. been dealing with them for years, very fast and easy to deal with.

Out here in BC there's a few of us on HBC that yearly go in on group orders from Higginsons. We've never had any trouble getting 21lbs ordered up.

I wish we were closer!!

Higginson's waives the shipping fees for 21lbs? Really? I always stop in but that's good to know for the future. :)

Only thing I wish they sold RCBS. I like their molds designs a little better and luber/sizer parts. Lee stuff for the rest, though. :)

powder doesn't travel air, so it will take few more days.

You could always go to hummasons in Ancastor or Lawry's in Caladonia they both carry a pretty good selection. We go a few times a year to pick up shot an clay targets but they carry powder to.:50cal:

Stopped by hummasons last week for some IMR 4350 and 4831, $22.50/lb, Lawry's was out of both when I called except for 8lbs containers.

Higginsons give great service. My powder always arrives promptly by courier.

Edited to add . . .
My experience with SIR has not been nearly so positive, and they are now at the bottom of my list.

I should take a good look at what I need and do up an order for Higginsons. I'm thinking an 8lb of Varget wouldn't be a bad idea as would a quantity of 4350, RL15 and RL22. Might have to talk a few of the boys into buying to get to the magic 21lb mark.

You're close.

Hey Slushee, if you are in Woodstock you are not too far away from getting it yourself. Lowry Shooting Supplies in Caledonia just off of #6 Highway has most of the stuff you want. And they are nice people too.
My pal Rick at R&R bullets is on the mountain in Hamilton and he casts some very nice bullets. Rick is at R&Rbullets@mountaincable.net. 905 536-5690. He has some very nice 9mm bullets, 38spl wadd cutters and he has a dynamite 40S&W 155SWC bullet. Tell him Hatman1793 sent ya!
You're not that far away.

The only issue may be storage. There is a limit to the amount of powder and primers you can store, and there are regulations about how to store them, possibly depending where you live.
