Mailing Pistols Question

I have never received anything locked either.

Is the issue just the transport to and from the post office, and once in Canada Post's hands the rules do not apply?

I've received everything from just wrapped in a rag and stuffed in a box to trigger locked with one of those cheap parklands two hole locks with the key under the foam and the pistol case zip tied. Another I received (from a retail store) had both the trigger and case zip tied. I guess it just depends on the shipper.

If someone has gone through the trouble of opening, a zip tie will not prevent anything. It is just non-sense! Mail it and be done with it. I have never received anything locked from any dealer either.

I particularly like the ones that arrive with a snap cap in them. Really grabs your attention the first time you rack the slide:eek:

I still don't get the zip tie thing. I zip tied a 1911 that had a ventilated trigger once. That was essentially the same as applying a trigger lock.
How would one zip tie a CZ trigger?

The other thing of interest is that I have shipped stuff to be modified with a plastic trigger lock and never seem to get them back.

I always used zip ties too. The Ontario CFO as of last year does not recognize zip ties any more (per my experience with gun shows in Ontario and getting harassed directly by the CFO) it is on their agenda. I also stated that all the businesses do it and they (CFO officer Steve and another CFO guy) said that businesses need to straighten up. This is just from two CFO officers last year at two gun shows in a row where I had tables. I know that different CFO say different things but it is defiently on their agenda. So I say zip ties are no longer an acceptable form of lock. IMO

One of those cheap screw-on locks is fine on the gun, and I'd zip-tie the outer container.

I also make sure the outer container [the cheapest MTM case I can find] is wrapped with cardboard or heavy paper and thoroughly duct taped shut. I don't care if the end recipient has to use a knife for 5 minutes to get it open...I just don't want coming loose in transport. As well, I take a picture of the final wrapped package and send it to the recipient, so he can tell at a glance if it has been tampered with.

I have bought 6 hand guns & 2 rifles by mail. NONE have ever been locked, All the Sellers I bought from Advertise here.....maybe we should ask them about this.

Wire tie on the trigger

Any trigger lock device is useless to a committed thief. I'm yet to see one I couldn't pick or cut in 15 seconds

My M&P9 kit came zip tied trigger, and case from TSE earlier this year. And completely wrapped in thick black plastic (shipping box). Couple of snips and she was free. I think the standard is needing a tool to gain access. But let's be clear, there is not a normal transport case in existence, that would not be opened pretty quickly, if we wanted in it.

From the store I've never received a lock. From private sale it's varied; sometimes the case is locked, sometimes the pistol is locked. But it's never been both.
